Fuck knows. The last of my black market bag. Could be anything.
Hi all, I'm new. I thought I'd start one of these journal things.

I'm growing x1 Think Different.

300w Viparspectra LED.
Canna Terra Pro Plus.
Terra Vega & Terra Flores.
10ltr Airpot.
40x40x120cm premade tent.
20/4 light schedule.
6" Carbon filter & extractor fan, passive intake.

I dunno what other info to put, the above seems the most relevant.

I germinated the seed in a jiffy pellet, it took just over two days to show itself. As soon as the first leaves began to uncurl, I put it under the light. The user manual for the light said to keep it 40 inches from new seedlings, so that's what I did.

Anyway, as this is my very first grow, I'm happy to just see what happens. As-long as I've got *something* to smoke at the end of it, I'll be chuffed.

Here's the tent. Comments about how I've tied this all up like a drunken monkey are very welcome. It was a complete nightmare. Easy Hang my arse.

This is day 3. Nothing too spectacular.

Day... Erm... Not sure. Day 6 I think. Already learned one thing from this - keep better records.

This is day 12. I know it's day 12 because I took this photo today and I remember planting it on October 1st, lol.

So, that's all I have so far. It's all very exciting (for me) and I'm really looking forward to learning all I can from my first grow.
I am tempted to try some low stress training. From what a I've seen, it can greatly increase yields. I think it's too young at the moment to be fiddling around with though, any thoughts on that?

Some things I've noticed so far that I didn't anticipate;

Temperature control.
This was a bit of an issue at the start. The inside of the tent was sitting at a constant 33°c. I then found some flaps/windows around the bottom of the tent. After I opened those, the temperature fell to 26°c, where it has remained ever since. Humidity is 45% constant.

Watering.
There seems to be a dizzying amount of info out there about watering, specifically when to water. Some people use moisture meters, some people go by the weight of the pot, other people just stick their fingers in the soil. Thus far, the sticking finger in method is working for me.

Tent size.
Almost immediately after setting it up, I wished I'd bought a bigger one. After putting in the filter, the light and the exhaust ducting, it became apparent that heigh may be an issue. So perhaps LST will become necessary over time. We'll see.

All the above is probably old hat to most of you, but I'm pleased so far. Early days of course, but nothing has gone wrong yet. Lol. More updates to follow hopefully.

Hey Bro

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on starting your first grow. It looks like you've got a decent setup for starting out.

Yeah I think you will want to do a little LST with that think different it has the potential to get quite large. And you're correct in thinking it's a little bit early.

I personally like to lift the pot up and Water by weight method. The problem is early on that really doesn't work. So like you and soil tend to use my finger. However, you are at the point where your plant is mature enough to give slow soaking watering that give 10 to 15% run off each time you water. And the plants can't soak that run off back up. Some guys have a bucket or tote outside their chant with a great on top where they pulled a plant out to water, other guys will have a tray in the tent to catch the stuff and then no suction it up with a vacuum cleaner.

It's perfectly okay to set your fan and filter combination up outside your tent and the only thing that matters is the direction of airflow through your filter, you may need a bigger filter if you push air into it as opposed to pulling air through it. That's simply because the surface area on the inside of your filter is much smaller than the surface area on the outside of your country.

I really prefer to run my lights 24-0, you'll find guys all over the place on light schedule. I simply do it to keep my environment as stable as possible. If you don't have a good fan controller that's something you need to look into ordering. Ideally you would have something that would have a high idle a low idle and low temperature shut off. You need to check and find out what your minimum fan speed is most can't go below 30 or 40%.

Anyway welcome if you have any questions you can tag me by putting the @ sign in front of my name.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, can you clarify?
At the moment, I pour in water slowly until I see it start to come out of the bottom of the pot. As-soon as that happens, I stop pouring. I figure when I see that runoff, it means the soil is "full", if that makes sense?

I don't really get this either, sorry. Lol.
At the moment the whole lot is on one timer. So when the light goes off, everything else does too. I do know however that when the plant gets older, it will start to smell so I'll need to have the extraction fan stay on when the light goes off.
Also, regarding 24/0 schedule. I knew that autoflowers will come to term regardless of the schedule, but I didn't know zero dark hours was an option. I thought even autoflowers needed some night time? What sort of difference will 24/0 and 18/6 make to the yield do you think?

So as far as runoff goes, if you put a liter of water in and then you start to see it run out the bottom you would want about 150 ml of runoff extra water running out the bottom. That's 15% by my American math.

So a fan speed controller will turn your fan on full blast automatically at a temperature you set, say 26 degrees C. Then if your temperature drops down to a certain setpoint like 24 c it will cut your fan speed down to 30%, that way you still get some air circulation but he have the opportunity to keep your temperatures up. Then you can have a final setting where If it drops below that temperature it just shuts your fan off completely. That is a big bonus for controlling the temperature of your environment.

It's your environment that really determines how big your plants get all things being equal. As far as light schedules and yields go, I'm of the opinion that the more light and the longer you give it the bigger yields.

I routinely grow plants in the 14-ounce range and it's rare that I don't grow a 1-pound plant in every one of my grows. And like I say I run 24-0. I do have quite a bit of experience and I have my environment dialed in perfectly and I grow in Coco which is one of the best mediums you can use if you want the big yields.

great looking plant for day 12 so you doin ok.
jingo talks a lot of sense,so has you covered.
watering tech,we all slightly different but similar find what suits you.
dosnt everyone wish they had a bigger cupboard/tent/growroom ?
lightcycle i run 19/5 why ? just to be different and a bit odd.
good luck n keep er lit.

Hi, love your grow, it's also a strain I've been considering in the future, whatever you're doing seems to be working, so I wouldn't stress too much right now, I had similar issues with my first grow in regards to height, limitations of space, and I ended buying 3 tents, several LED lights, and various other bits and bobs, including cutting a hole in my tent at one stage lol.. cos they got too tall..

So my first grow was very much a massive learning curve, as will be yours I'm sure.. looking forward to the updates

Hey ! Great start there ! I'm stuck with the same issue you have with height limitations...
I cut the airpot so it's lower and that could off made a difference of burning my future tops ... but it's too late now for you so just lst the shit out of it

Small update. I decided to attempt some training. I realise perhaps the plant is a little young, but I was eager to have a go and see what happened.
I used a pipe cleaner to brace the main stem, then I used some rigid wire to pin down the main stem.

You can just make out the pin in this pic...

20171012_194404-picsay.jpg

I was absolutely astounded at how quickly the plant not only recovered, but also began new growth...

20171014_204956-picsay.jpg

While bending the stem, I was terrified of breaking something. It felt so fragile in my fingers. But the resilience of the plant has really become self evident.
I'll let it grow out a little more before I bend anything else, but I'm glad I had a go.
Not sure if the pin is in the right place or not, and I'm not sure I'll be sticking things in the soil again, don't wanna damage any roots, but I definitely think further LST is within my capabilities.
