New Grower Noob grow (think different).

Following on! Im interested in Sativas & TD is something I’m looking at for next grow -I’m only on day 9 of my first so it’s going to be awhile,

by the way jingo there is a bit of a jedi with this stuff so id take his word for things over just about anyone. youd do well to have a look through some of his threads mate : )

Thanks for the input chaps.

I downloaded a camera macro app, pics still aren't great. Think I'll have to get a jewelers' loop or something.

Any thoughts?

My watering schedule was every 2/3 days I would add water slowly until I see a little run off. I've been using canna vege every other watering during veg growth, then canna flores during flowering.
The plant has had just water for the last week or so, same schedule (every 2/3 days). I've been using a moisture meter, which seemed to work pretty well.
I've also kept the ph levels at around 6.5, using ph up+down. Grow medium is canna terra Pro plus, 15ltr airpot.

I am worried about the colouration of the leaves. From looking at other people's diaries, it seems that some plants retain a nice green colour throughout their life, bit also some plants seem to have only yellow leaves right up to harvest, without it affecting yield.

Can someone make some kind of diagnosis from looking at these pics? Or do you need to see some more close up macro shots?
Also, any idea when I should harvest? The pistils (that is what the white hairs are called, aren't they?) are still mostly white, some brown.

From looking at all info available, I'm guessing my plant needs at least another week before harvest?

Any advice much appreciated. Worried my plant is sick and may die before I can harvest.

First off, your plants don't look too bad and you're correct you got about a week maybe a little bit more before Harvest. Giving them just plain water right now is okay.

The problem with your fan leaves can't really be diagnosed all that well because most of what occurred has occurred in the past. And can have multiple sources, like lockout, nutrient toxicity, Etc. It would kind of be like doing a autopsy on somebody who got to the end of their life and it had multiple system failures.

A great way to tell when your plant is ready to harvest is to keep an eye on those pistils and the calix's they lead back to. The pistil is designed to catch pollen and then you will get a seed that develops back in that calix. When you don't have pollen the calyx will swell up quite large and may even look like it has a seed and the pistil will die back and become short and brown. When your bud has mostly fat calix's and brown short pistils it's ready to harvest. On most strains it's the calixs that give you the big weight in the end.

Ah, that's all very useful info, thanks.

As this is my first grow, I was expecting a few issues here and there. I suppose after I get a few grows under my belt I'll be able to spot the early signs of potential problems. These yellow leaves kind of took me by surprise this time around. As-long as I have *something* to smoke at the end I'll be considering this a success. Lol

Right, I got one of those clip on macro lenses for my phone. I don't exactly have steady hands, and these are the best still shots I could get (hold your applause please, I know the photos are amazing ).

I did use the lense to sort of survey the plant all over though, and from what I can tell, most of the trichomes are milky, I can only see a very small amount of clear ones. Also one or two here and there are amber.

However, I still see a lot of white pistils.

I've read and been told by different people that when most of the pistils turn brown, it's harvest time. Other people say I should use the colour of the trichomes as my guide.

Mood: confused.

Can someone tell me, please, should I harvest?

I'm looking for the the sativa/cerebral high ideally, rather than sofa lock.
At this point though that is of secondary concern. Now I just want something to smoke. lol.

So, kind people, any thoughts?

[Should probably post this in my diary thread too.]

For what it is worth that is about where I chop most of my plants. You never go wrong listening to @jingo though.
