- Sour Livers
So finally, I am going to try and do somewhat of a journal on my 12 Sour Livers (blues). Probably going to be slightly chaotic in terms of updates but I am using this as a dry run and if I judge the girls to be successful then my next cycle will be fully documented from germination to harvest.
For anyone wondering what the "Last Chance" is about, well this is the last chance for auto's to show me what they can do. I have had some good success in terms of weight but in terms of quality medicine nothing seems to compare to photo's. This is where I was told to go to mephisto so I did but because of the extreme weather we had this summer in the UK things went as bad as they could have possibly gone and I lost all 14 of the girls.
So to the actual grow, I have a space roughly 2.4 mx1.2 mx2m , I have 2 600w hps digial balasts running on 2 sunking medium parabolic shaders and the outake is a 12 inch 600 diamond pro carbon filter with the biggest 12 inch RVK I could find, I run no intake as the outtake creates more than enough negative pressure within the room, allowing for good ventilation.
I have 12 Sour Livers which i started in a pint glass for 18 hours then on to paper towel between 2 plates placed in a cupboard, 36 hours later we have all 12 lovely tap roots ready for potting. I placed all 12 in 2 ltr plastic pots (or there abouts) filled with a seed and seedling pre fertilised compost (available at any garden centre) which i watered with a ph of just under 6 and placed under a 600w hps. This is run by a hacienda digital ballast on a medium sun king parabolic shade which I placed roughly 3 feet above the girls. The reason for using the compost is I find it takes most of the guess work out of the feeding at the beginning which is the only thing I could say I struggled with when moving from cuttings to seed. One girls did sprout missing its first 2 proper leaves, I have seen this before with negative outcomes but after a day or 2 it began new growth but did have a case of serious claw leaf, I just gave it a heavy watering and it has now sorted itself out tho it has the thinnest main stem of all.
I kept them under the single light for 12 days lowering the light slightly every day or so. Now even tho the temp outside the room was only 20c the temp in the room was hitting close to 30c which was rather alarming and the humidity was hitting close to 70% which i was not too concerned about but is unheard of for this space. Did I buy a bigger outtake? Change my light? maybe more fans? what about a light controller? What I ended up doing was getting two cloths,a bucket of warm water and a tooth brush. I cleaned all surface's within the space including the shader's and ballast's and then I turned off the outtake and scrubbed the carbon filter with the toothbrush like a madman, I then grabbed a t shirt as a makeshift face mask haha. Now for those asking why there is no cover on my carbon, well during the summer the temp got rather high so I had to take it off too allow more air movement which worked but when i put it in the washer it ruined it and apart from the need to now clean the carbon, I have found no negative effect when sniffing the end of the outtake pipe. This lowered the temp by 7c and the humidity by 20% which I would say is a good lesson to any newcomer who thinks it is all about how many gadgets you have and how much money you spend, hard work and love can never and will never be replaced in my opinion.
So day 13 I potted all the girls up into 16ltr grey root pouches filled with roughly 12 ltrs of Gold Label 60/40 coco/clay pebble mix, with a handful of the original seedling compost i used placed where the roots would be contacting the new mix. I then did a 20ltr mix containing 30ml of canna coco a and b, 2 ml of atami Rootbastic and 10ml of silica by growth technology. I added around 1.2ml of PH down which brought the PH down to around 6 and fed the girls.I then turned on the 2nd 600w hps. Temps now around 28c and 55% humidty when lights on, 21c and 60% when off.
Day 15 I usually like to top a few of the bigger girls but reading the mephisto strain guide I decided against it due to the predicted size, It mentioned leaf tucking but I don't have the most delicate of hands so just took 2 - 4 leaves that were shading most of the arms. I then lowered the lights so they are now roughly 1 and a half feet from the tops of the girls.
Day 18 Just gave the girls a feed, 20ltrs 45ml of canno coco a and b , 2 ml of atami rootbastic and 10 ml of growth technology silica, ph down to just above 6. No slow down noticeable on the girls from taking a few leaves, arms seem to be coming out well. I have noticed a very slight tipping at the end of the leaves after an hour or so of feeding which I suggest would be me leaving the girls too long before a feed rather than too much nutrition but either way Rootbastic has done its job so that will lower the EC for the next feed since it won't be used.
This has got to be the longest post I have ever done but I thought I would make up for lack of pictures at the beginning with a verbal
