Hi @Mossy , hope youre having a good day! And just saying, id have sent you a card! Merry Xmas!!!

Ha ha Cheers @KingRatt :bighug:... it's wind up...me and hubby don't really do Christmas and birthdays any more......and Christmas cards actually drive me nuts......:d5:....it has taken me years of work not to get any....:crying:....

But I like to try get a bit mileage out of it.

There's a bunch of folks here that use BAS stuff. I think @WildBill just got a pallet of stuff shipped from them. I'd bet the AFN crowd must spend a couple grand a year from them :pass:
I just spent $1100! :face: :haha::haha::haha::haha::haha:
And a few hundred with Sustainable Village to finish off my automated watering system.

How about this one! You just stimulated my thinking!:headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::biggrin:
I think quite a few people here use some of their products, how about Coast of Maine?
I buy a couple hundred dollars worth a year.
I know I'm not the only one here.

You owned a pH meter?!? ...... (he said and then ducked the right cross that came instantly after)... :rolleyes2:

There a couple things going on with this... Setting aside the influence of CO2 and any CaCO3 hardness--->
Most basically, the higher the T, the more H2O dissociates into H+ + OH- ..... but this is only a very very small amount doing this...
That full point difference is mostly all margin of error and inherent inaccuracy of the device itself,... here's a chart to give perspective -->
View attachment 1723274.... recall that pH is a logarithmic scale, meaning a jump of 1.0 point is a 10x difference +/-...

Here's one for how CO2 acidifies water....

View attachment 1723278

>> And then there's what CaCO3 does: CaCO3 <--> Ca++ + CO3-- ... CO3-- will snag a free H+ instantly if it can, and that removal of the H+ ion lowers the acidity...

>> Temp also affects how much gas can dissolve into water; the higher the T, the less gas can stay in solution (think warm soda can getting opened vs. cold)

>> pure water has no pH buffering mineral in it (CaCO3), it's more readily influenced by CO2 acidification....

>> light itself has no direct effect on pH, but direct sunlight (and the infrared/heat in it) can warm the water of course, and the color of the container affects heat absorption too....

>>> pH meters can be touchy devices; that electrode bulb can be damaged easily, dirtied-up, etc., all affect it's accuracy... Not stored right in a proper solution, let to dry out for a long period of time also screws with this. Regular calibration is necessary, otherwise one is really rolling the dice on readings!
Calibration is super easy, most basic units have a mode to do this, all you need are the standard solutions to put it in -
As canna' growers, 4.0 and 7.0 are what's needed mainly, 10.0 I find isn't necessary but technically to dial in the reading best, it is with most decent meters... The more sophisticated and higher resolution the meter is, the more this 3 point calibration is necessary...
I don't bother, and my olde HM brand pH meter is still a solid reader after all these years!

I do!..... don't think FF was being a wise-ass doubter but I can see why it came off like it... he doesn't roll that way though, I know him well enough from years here...

great to see ya about mate, BTW! Happy Holidays - :bighug: .... now alas, it's time to get to work.... 😑

And...when the science does it's thing...and my outdoor temps and light drop my water PH in winter.....cough..cough... :eyebrows: ..it makes my girls go Black leafed.

(Well known Kush trait...phos deficiency..)

Cold colours...:eyebrows:

My soil is going on 7 years old. I have 2 fifty gal batches, 1 each for the 2 grows I do a year. They stay in the composter 9 months between grows. I just made it from scratch with peat, coco, various composts and a million other organic amendments I bought on the web. lol
I compost in quite a bit of neem cake, insect frass and crab meal to control insects.
I use yucca, silica, Liquid Weight (complex carbs), fish hydrolysate and Flower Finisher for last 4 weeks of bloom.
I see one thing that you either don't do or didn't mention, volcanic pumice. I've used them in raised beds before. I don't know why it took me this long to use it and growing cannabis!:face::haha:
That and this volcanic tuft that I use I think have made a significant impact on my growth. Both with very low heavy metal and very high in silica with a large portion of it being readily available. And best thing about....... it it lasts.
The tuft is fairly fine. I feed some to my worms to help with their digestion. And they break the stuff down while they're eating, making it more available for the plants.:eyebrows::eyebrows:

I'm just way too high to post much more on this subject! I need to stop it right here or I'm going to write a novel!:baked::cools::dizzy::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha:

I'm totally with you on the insect frass. Both fermented and dry, both have their own attributes. But the end result is better pest resistance and I think it increases the funk.:eyebrows::eyebrows::biggrin:

Okay that's the last point.

Since I know you won't read all that here are the cliff notes!:rofl::rofl:

And I disagree with that one too....... :crying: ...but I ain't gonna be getting picked on again tonight..........

I gave up arguing with the man on the internet video years ago.........it's bad for your health......

Good Morfnoevight All! EO'n'Dabs.

I cannot overstate how good the dabs of @LaughingHyenaSeeds Lil' Stick are!

Busy day yesterday, got the leaves all raked up and run through the mulcher and in the bins.

The long Black is so complex and changes by the minute as it cools............. The rest of breakfast was good also.

Word on Ph for the growers with cold grow rooms.

When I was growing in an outdoor room at the house @FullDuplex was teaching me about PH-ing and bubbling my water. Air pump.

I set up a 10 gallon bin of water...with an air pump in.

PH is affected by heat and light.

If I PH'd the water in the morning...when it had been stood in the dark and the cold overnight..it gave one reading.

If I PH'd the SAME WATER in the afternoon...after daylight and warmth there could be as much as a full PH point difference.

It was the same water. :pass:...two completely different PH readings.

The way I had to work it was i was on 14/10....cold/early winter....so my girls were on the cold reading for the majority of their time..14 hours.

So use the readings from the cold measure period.

Heat and Light affect your water readings.

If you have a PH meter...check it out. Take a cold morning reading...then stand the same water in the light and warmth for a few hours...and retest....:watering:

Also... everyone I've seen with the screw adjusted PH meter says they are a PITA to calibrate.

I bought a cheap/generic PH meter that lasted me faithfully for years...but I upgraded for a one recommended by AFN members at the time...cough..cough...:smoker:...and it was Rubbish/faulty.....so was the replacement.

Price does not guarantee quality with them.
We know how cheap I am but PH is critical in hydroponics - IMPE. This is what I am trusting today for as little $$ as possible. I have Blue Lab Combo Meters and I am using an Apera BNC PH Probe, at $31 it works as well if not better than the $84 Blue Lab probe for a much better price. The thing is I am pretty good at reading my plants for PH so if this pen fails I can pick it up pretty quick and use my back up meter and order a replacement.

@Dr Fluff I have gone to using a stir pump in my reservoir to slow down that reaction you describe and hence the subsequent PH drop. I also will stop adding biologicals and will move to a manual top feed of them. The biological activity of these bennies causes a drop in reservoir PH as well.

When I was growing DWC I aerated the water at least 24 hours to do just what @Waira describes. Now I have a Staging Tank that aerates 24/7/365.

All of these things I do and I can still fook-up the PH  :funny:

Yup, sipping a Gatorade this morning.
I think it's from all the antibiotics they had me on and being to sick to remember to replace the good gut ones. Ordered some probiotics today.
Bananas, Rolled Oats, nuts, live yogurt, spinach and all greens, sauerkraut and fermented pickles, Kimchi all of this is good for both electrolytes and digestive health.
