Hmm, seems I was a bit late to the grocery store:

This is the fresh vegetable section of the largest grocery store in town. The other two stores were more or less identical. Never did find what I was looking for. Pretty much the entire fresh vegetable and dairy supply for the town is depleted. Even during the worst pandemic panic, we never saw anything like this. Given the catastrophic impact on Fraser Valley farms, plus the as yet undetermined but huge damage to highways and rail, this could continue for a while. And to add another detail, we have another serious rain event coming next week. Could be an interesting winter in more ways than one.

Stay safe peeps, and all you Canucks, don't get too carried away with the stocking up... I feel for the low wage workers who were hoping to shop on the way home from work where I live, and am glad I did a shop yesterday.

Same here on the island.. gas stations sold out, shelves empty in stores.. crazee it is. Interesting times we live in :eek1:

Holy shit! That’s crazy! I hope it improves soon…
Sadly, the impacts of this event will last for quite a while. The rail and highway damage has not even been well assessed yet, but some of the pictures suggest to me that the permanent fixes will be very large projects with a lot of preliminary engineering that can't even get started until the water recedes and engineering and test crews can get to and work on sites safely with the necessary equipment. All this is during a pandemic that may well get worse while all this work needs to be done.

And more rain, potentially lots more, is coming to the province next week. I hope what we get where I live shows up as snow, if we had a rain event like they did down south, the snowmelt that would result here would cause damage that no one has ever seen or imagined. I was horrified by the looks of satellite imagery before this rain event happened. It was not initially clear whether it would hit BC that far south, or up where I live. If that fire hose of water had arrived further north, the damage would have been even worse than it was down south, although the consequences for the rest of the country would not have been so bad.

Anyway, a quick fix is not possible. Getting the permanent repairs done will take months, and some of the repairs may prove difficult if not impossible in the middle of winter. Also of course, this rain event may not be the last this winter. Welcome to climate change. :sadcry:
