When I was in high school, I worked at a pretty large motorcycle dealership in the Phoenix area…..one of my jobs was to get the crashed motorcycles off the wrecker, and put them in a warehouse until the insurance company could check them out. A large percentage of these were sport bikes (late 1990’s), crashed into the backs of stopped cars by first time motorcycle owners (many had less than 100 miles)…..the main thing I noticed was that there was always a massive dent in area of the gas tank that cradles your crotch…..
Years back my state did away with helmets, The bikers wanted it too. But I still think it was to save the insurance companies a ton of money, dead people dont cost as much.
The same year they did two laws, no helmet needed on motorcycles, but you have to wear a helmet on a bicycle. Still trying to wrap my head around how that makes sense.
