"They" say that if coco dries out it becomes hydrophobic, in other words water runs off it like a duck. So if it dries out you could get parts of the pot that stay dry no mater how much you water it. The only way you'd know is after harvest if you take apart the root ball.
Or if your in a fabric pot it runs thru the sides and the water just runs out the bottom extremely fast. If the water comes out the bottom right away your soil is bricked. My friend in soil was blaming the fabric pots when the water went out the side. But really his soil was like a brick his yield was fucked small buds. But it was the fabric pots fault not the fact he was using Poland springs bottles instead of just getting r o water from the store and a five gallon jug. He wouldn't listen to me tho lol. Kept saying if I had plastic pots it would work. When im saying Poland springs I mean 16oz bottles lol

I didn't know you could go that long between waterings in coco. I guess that the smaller the pot the more often you have to hydrate? I'm in 3 gallons of coco, and the longest I've gone was 24 hours, a couple of times when I never made it home that night (that doesn't happen often at 72 yrs old).
I don't think they dry out anywhere near quick until the plants are bigger. You can tell how wet they are by measuring how much you put in vs how much comes back out. I also don't use any perlite so it stays a little wetter and the plastic bags seem to keep the moisture inside better then the fabric bags

Thanks, @Lil Dab and @Frankthetank! Since I'm a noob with only a couple years experience, I follow the manufacturer feed calculator. That's where I got numbers for the schedule I posted yesterday.

I grew my last grow entirely on Poland Springs spring water and it did great, the only time I have had problems is using RO and distilled water, LOL. Your buddies problem was simply understanding how to water a plant in soil, you do not water the plant, you water the soil and the soil provides for the plant.

I'm in small pots but I'll probably only water mine maybe twice a week for 1st 2 or 3 weeks. They'll get multiple small feedings daily after a month. These are 5 days old have been fed once at day 3 and will get it again at day 9 or 10

yeah I do know it doesn't need to be water everyday but do need to feed to runoff when you do..

Yup you beat me to it I was gonna say difference in the bags and perlite.. Maybe I am not then idk lol and it's just been my feed mix which has gotten better and better think we might be getting some where now but the next couple weeks will tell that's when they normally get ugly :goodluck:
