I had a cassette, yes cassette, that was a comedy mixed selection.
Same tape that had the comedy magic trick of "How to turn a tennis ball into a Peach!"
I actually used the trick quite often at parties when I wanted to get to know a cute girl!

I got the icc x mac and diesel from my brother finally... Everything seems amusing great way to spend my Friday. My goodness, Mr. Rodgers I just had a serious flashback. I'm going to burn another one what a day this has been.

Oh yeah, I remember hearing that too. So, is it safe to assume that you were a bubblehead or maybe bubblehead support?

When I reenlisted, I got an option of 2 yr shore duty guarantee in Hawaii area. Duh! A no-brainer! To my surprise, Subase Pearl was the destination. Ok..........send a surface sailor to a submarine base. Yup! Perfect logic! In the end, it really was pretty logical.
I really only had a very rudimentary knowledge of subs, maybe slightly above the average person. The shop that I went to, eventually running, only had two bubbleheads out of a high of 32 men. Most were first time shore duty surface sailors E-4s and E-5s with a few lucky boots drawing shore duty on their first set of orders.
I soon found out that bubbleheads just plain don't work on their own damn equipment! Period! They did PMS and that's it! That's just the opposite of what I would be if I were stationed on one that I had to go DEEP under the water doing angles and dangles! They sooooo loved me there, I got extended TWICE!
People here may think, "Oh boohoo! You had to stay on shore duty in Hawaii two more years!" LOL! And with a different job, you'd probably be correct. Not so much at Subase Pearl! Subase Pearl was not even an IMA, Intermediate Maintenance Activity, and it was manned far less than one. The high of around 30 guys was just that, a high that never approached that as long as I was there. There were times I didn't go home for over 3 days straight with only catnaps or kitten naps since they were so small. Shore duty is supposed to be a place where you recharge your batteries from being deployed and on sea duty with no days off for months on end. Well, I worked far less at sea and deployed than working at Subase.


Was it all bad? HELL NO! I learned a lot..........A LOT....about subs, grew as a leader, made a lot of good friends, got several wards for some of the jobs I did on subs that would have normally been shipyard work and a bunch of other little stuff.
