Mephisto Genetics Hubbabubba K.I.S.S. grow journal

Unfortunately the leaves that have been affected never grow out of it but once you have corrected the amount of Nitrogen in your feed new growth should appear to be fine.

My Hubbabubba started with fertilizer at 500 PPM and has been fed once at 1000 PPM. That seems low considering that some cannabis plants can happily tolerate over 3000 PPM.

I am thinking the claw leaves are caused by something else. I am hoping the new growth will look better.

Sorry Hubbabubba i don't understand PPM as there are 3 different scales for it. I work in EC only as its a universal language for Hydro.
In my opinion Autoflowers are generally less tolerant to nitrogen when compared to photos. Dont get me wrong some specific photo strains are very sensitive to Nitrogen as well.
I mostly grow Autoflowers and when feeding I like to keep bottle A of the grow nutrients at 1.5-2ml per litre and bottle B anywhere from 3-4ml per litre. The reason i do this is because bottle A has a NPK ratio of 2-0-0 and bottle B has 1-2-6.
Some times if the plant is particularly sensitive to Nitrogen I will only use bottle B the whole way through veg and this seems to work wonders with no clawing at all.
As far as i know the claw can only be caused by a Nitrogen toxicity and nothing else so this is a good way of knowing when you have over done it on the grow nutes.
Looking forward to your next update man, your plant is doing great.

Thanks for your thoughtful post. I think clawing can also be caused by water stress. I flushed the soil to raise the pH when the plant was only 1 week old. I suspect that wet soil has been causing the clawing. The leaves are a lighter green, not the dark green I would expect as a sign of nitrogen toxicity.

You are right, EC (electrical conductivity) is easier to compare. I am fertilizing at 2.0 EC.
That is HALF of the concentration of fertilizer in the soil from the manufacturer, it might be high for hydroponics, but should be reasonable for Soil. I might drop to 1.0 EC every watering and see how she likes it.

I hope in a few days the new growth will look better.

Howdy bubba! I've been wanting to grow that strain out for a while! Love bubblegum flavors, yu should try the AutoBubble by Female Seeds the smell and flavor is spot on imo!! Im digging the KISS method bro, easier is always better!! Lol. Nice job Your lady is growing beastly for her age she recovered beautifully from the nute lockout last week!!

I grow in coir which is somewhat similar to peat, you can definitely push the ec high, that's probaby why your lady is growing quickly but that's probably why she's clawing too. Imo your EC is way too high for the stage.. I never went up to 2.0 ec on my last grow. 1.6 max. However on my grow before that I went u to like 3.2 ec so you can definitely push the nutes either way but I'd recommend staying on the low side of dosages. Just my two cents bro you could probably alleviate some of the clawing stress by dropping the ec down some. Subbing up for the rest good luck bro!!

Thanks for the details about your EC'S, I am still learning. You are helping me decide to drop the nutes back to 1.0 EC. I started the grow at 1.0 EC but had pH problems with the peat moss, so I flushed at 2.0 EC to get the pH up. I have heard of growers in soil pushing the nutes up to 6.0 EC!!!! That seems extreme, like eating megavitamins to get expensive urine.

I would like to try growing in coir, but I don't trust the stuff available here. I could soak the coir in fresh water for a week and I still wouldn't trust it. I want to move towards TLO (total living organics). I really like the Potter's Gold soil that Margahooja has found, good stuff! http://www.pottersgold.net/why-potters-gold.html

Day 22 14 inches (36 cm) She is not the prettiest plant, leaves are still clawed, but she is growing so I try not to interfere. My main concern is no sex. I want pistils! She is drinking lightly at 1.0 EC, or 500 PPM. I wish she would stay this size, I don't need a 1 meter plant!

Hi Hubbabubba
I had the same thing as you did, my HBSS wouldnt show sex for a very long time.
Its actually the first strain i have ever had that had done this, Im on day 36 and still no pistils.
She is doing just fine though dude.

Well this is embarrassing for me... My EC meter is way out of calibration and I have been over fertilizing. You are right, the nitrogen was too high causing leaf clawing. I just couldn't believe it until I saw the first tip burn yesterday. Now I feel like a moron.

My Mephisto plants tolerated the abuse like champs, but there is a limit to how much any plant can take. Hubbabubbasmelloscope should recover just fine. Hang in there girls, I'm gonna wash those salts right out of your hair.
