Spent around $200 on my first outdoor grow. Building supplies, soil, seeds, and tools. Grew $1700 worth of weed. Spent the money saved on my indoor supplies... Tent, lights, nutes, fans, more seeds ect ... Continued to grow, and have saved far more than I spent. So technically, I've spent nothing 
In fact, even though I don't sell what I grow, in a way, I've still made money.

I was a cheap ass and made my own cab lol
It was £70 for the unit (like a big plastic toolbox) and some blood sweat and tears making the right holes in it and getting it airtight.
- Got a cheap 250w Dual CFl abour £30 and a really crappy inline out take fan (£30) which got replace half way throughthe first grow for an RVK (still a bit crap lol) £70.
- A cheapy reflector (used for one grow before discarding
- A ph measuring pen (the only original bit of kit i still have left lol... and a 6 litre pot)
- I got some crap unheard of nutrients lol - The grow shop talking me into buy crap!
- I bought 2 pots and some Biobizz all mix soil (the goons in the shop couldnt even sell me biobizz nutes to go with!)
Phresh Carbon Filter and ducting - It's lasted years and is only just being replaced!
All told i spent about £400 - My first harvest wasnt great - but it was worth more than my setup costs. I've never sold a gram. I'd rather give it away in return for a nice pie .. or cake lol

My building is 21'x39'. I am allowed to have 66 flowering plants and 132 non-flowering in various stages.
I will be purchasing more equipment to fill this amount of space after I crop out. (Wife won't let me spend more until we reap the benefits).
