How do you get those heavy dense nugs?

great discussion, glad we are here to review this and talk about it. this puts my mind at ease some. i have grown some not so great plants that just didnt develop the tight buds, i keep those and make edibles out of them and while i dont like the fact that it takes 30-60 minutes until onset, the fact that is so damn discrete is beautiful.

i can see where perhaps the dense nugs developed and where they got their stigma from. about a year ago i grew some NY Diesel Auto that was just really strong and while the buds where not dense at all, they were covered in trichomes and I got some pretty good reviews from friends about the high - but it was lagging back appeal.

on the side of trimming, i got some time ago one of these trimming bowls, probably 18" diameter, its great. makes it a breeze, i really like it.

Just watched a video on the use of a trimming bowl. Could have used that last year, after hand trimming two pounds I left my last two auto plants to rot after just cutting off the best buds. Bowl is just too big to deal with for me currently.

I can't see how people here grow 20 to 40 pounds with outdoor photoperiod plants and then trim it all without a machine.

well you know alot of people are proud of their craft here - which is justified - so i can see them proudly hand trimming etc... but those trimmers do make a world of a difference. I basically pick the bigger leaves off by hand, put them in a pile for trim to use, and the nugs go into the trimmer, spin it a few times, and voila!

I have issues with my eyes that i have trouble trimming for long periods.

What kind of trimmer do you have if I may ask? My joints hurt after an hour of trimming lol.

I got the ipower one because it was on sale, my buddy has the other one forget name i think HP or something like that. They are identical zero difference except colour. They always come on sale for under $200 and they are all pretty much the same on amazon. Some come with 3 blades some with 2 blades, one wet trim blade and one dry trim blade and 3rd blade is usually just a wire. The top with gearbox and hand crank and a real nice bowl and little rubber mat to set up on and spin. There is no doubt you can hand trim better, the machine is a little too aggressive but who cares just better butter from bowl. I've wet cut and dry cut, wet cut is the way to go, the only thing i don't like about wet cutting is your drying trimmed bud in drying nets you get one flat side. Not big deal but I'm anal about bag appeal so it take me one joint smoked to get over it. The machine starts to shine 2-3 plants in and your hands are cramped and you start getting lazy and just want to finish, the machine don't care. The best part you can trim and binge watch the Umbrella Acamdey, Stranger Things, The Office at same time.

Oh I haven't seen them like that before. You clip the bud off the colas and just toss them in? Does it work well with dry bud that way? I prefer to hang dry whole plants, then clip my buds off after hand trimming.

This is usually what I think of when I think bud trimmers, so something half the price sounds pretty nice. And I do love Netflix.

Do you have any good pictures of the final product?

I will have pic's after sept. , all last year bud is gone.
karlkutta posted brillant pic of bud trimmmed. The machine is slightly to aggressive in my view, that said it's not super bad and the trade off is worth the time it saves plus it's mindless. You collect everything in bowl, in old days I'd take my scarf/cuttings and add a few buds to make butter. I think that is not needed now but have not experiment and made butter this year. The bowl is also good at catch the crystal because of how they do bottom> I seperate that too.

Dry vs Wet as far as trimming goes i've done both and either way is good but wet trimming removes one step of hanging twice. I only dry trim if i can't get too trimming right away. Trim fan leaf and use the other leaf to protect bud as it hangs and awaits it's trimming time.
The gearbox is 30X hand crank speed, just a guess because they say like having 30 pairs of scissors.
