Lighting HLG Diablo QB

That's a frosty girl! And every one of my lights, in my three tents and 2 cabs are genuine Horticultural Lighting Group Qauntum boards. My QB 304's are pre-production units and still running strong after almost 4 years. I've been a fan of these lights since day one!
Hi pop22 i have a question i am running a 500 watt series 3 red speck quantum board from BUDGETLED i am in day 68 ilgm gorilla glue in a 4x4 tent should i have at full power and what distance Thanks for any advice

Hey pop!

I was thinking of you when I got a little information and pics on 2 of HLG’s newest “bar light” versions of the R spec and Diablo QB’s.

When you see the new HLG Scorpion, you will wonder... Why didn’t I think of that? :smoking:

Can’t post anything image related yet. I don’t want to give away their design but it looks pretty damn cool. They worked hard on the lights and I don’t want to disrespect them by giving away information that they haven’t already released like on GML’s Youtube show.

I can say this... There will be two versions of the light, the regular 600W version and the 630W “Diablo” spec. Pricing is $1099 600W (2.7umol/j) and $1399 630W Diablo (3.0 umol/j). Super stoked to pick 2 of them up when I get the space I need to grow.

I didn’t think this deserved its own thread but I wanted to mention it here since you have experience with HLG Lights especially the Diablo boards.

More Information and pictures should be released tomorrow. Cheers.

PS: Full disclosure, I have zero financial affiliations or kickbacks with HLG, I just chat the guys up from time to time. I usually work with very expensive, specialized lighting for another industry and have contacts across that industry but none that are paid on the horticultural side of lighting.

What is cri and spectrum going to be like? - I don't need to see charts or anything. Are they supposed to be high bay or vertical cause the price is up there with Fluence and Osram's individual offerings.

What I posted is all that I can say... But they’ve already mention publicly that they will be used in vertical farming/racks. The 650R Diablo and new 600 R spec fill that high bay need but I feel these new lights could be used in a similar capacity if driven harder.

On CRI/Spectrum, I’ve been given no other specific information. However, if you look at the R spec and Diablo boards for their CRI Numbers and spectrum charts, you should be in the same ballpark. Lights of this quality and efficiency are going to have extremely high CRI. *I just checked HLG’s website and the CRI will be 90 or above... I wouldn’t worry. I hope all of this helps.

Sweet. 3600kish with 92cri :clapper:. 3.0umols is worth the price in efficiency if it's close or better than the Diablo. I'm excited. Thank you!

Thank you VERY much for the rep points, I really appreciate it Man! :d5:

I have been following several horticulture led/hp/cmh companies for the past couple of years and figured there are lot of cool growers like your self that would be interested in my findings. We should have all the information this coming week, the R spec version has been in production for the past month but they are on standby for diablo boards ( last I heard a week ago). Hope all of this helps! Wish I could post pics but can’t steal their sunshine!

I'm trying to dip my toes in deeper after seeing what Prawn Connery accomplished with his boards.

HLG really separates themselves with the Diablos and the Elites as well. Everyone is using the 301b or h right now but I think it's smart of them to put focus on spectrum and cri rather than just umols. Very exciting that they have more offerings coming, the Scorpion's being driven harder for high bay would great in certain situations but I'll wait to see before I put my foot in my mouth lol.

I appreciate the info. I like where the technology is right now that I'm looking for a 'final' lighting solution. It was very helpful! :pighug:

I could not agree more with your post! I am right there with you... I’ve had to step away from my profession to be a caregiver for My P’s but need a space to grow medicine for them and for me. I keep trying to buy a house close to them but can never find exactly what I want/need so I’ve been channeling that energy into researching various cannabis grows/styles and growing vegetables again outdoors to dial in my living soil game.

On another note, Expect a “B Spec” 600W version of the light down the line, from what I’ve gathered the “blue” diodes are on serious back order. But I think we will see this version at some point too when that is no longer a problem.

Wish I had more to share, I’ve been bugging the shit out of a couple guys working with and for HLG... But a lot of growers sponsored by HLg have the R Spec version in their hands and have started implementing them into their grows over the weekend, others will get them later in the week due to slower shipping services, etc.

And I totally feel the same about that “final” lighting solution... This LED hits on on so many needs that I would feel very comfortable pulling the trigger knowing I would be the weakest link in my chain to grow, not the Equipment, Genetics or inputs. :)

Man! I envy your profession. I've spent nearly a decade being a diesel mechanic, pandemic ended that for me and I'm not upset. I'm right there with you now lol. I've decided how and where I want to grow now it's just grabbing everything I need. I'm going with Connery's Highlights for my flower spaces but I've been in the hunt for a veg light, ideally with some UVA, but I'm interested to see what HLG has in the future. High cri veg lights are hard to find outside of 3000k, I veg in 3000k, but my CMH and MH have always been better imo and the CMH sits at 97cri. I have found one solution from Waveform but my budget :cuss:

I never looked too hard at the B spec, were the diodes deeper in the 395nm range or something else?

You shared plenty already. It's a shame vertical rack lighting is always so expensive. There are so many height challenged growers that can't afford a $1000 light or DIY one for close proximity.

It would be amazing if we could pool our money together to assemble something like that with around 500-900 ppfd, 2.0+umols, UV, 630-730 in a close proximity board that doesn't break the bank. Chain em together or optional frame - AFN exclusive autoflower light for seed/clone to harvest in 3000/4000k.

Hey! Thanks for the update! Yes, i've heard rumors on these, but I haven't chatted with the guys in a while. Guess i eeed to do some investigation...lol!

Here's my Diablo light in action. I'll be moving these to the QB 304 tent and I have 14 assorted autos that will be moved in here.
