Lighting HLG Diablo QB

also remember, these are lights designed for the commercial market and adapted to home/DIY. I see a lot of people using Quantum boards at home with satisfying results. Amit and the guys know what they are doing when they design these boards. All my data is either supplied by HLG or from the lights I personally use. So I try to answer questions to the best of my ability, but i don't have all the answers, I'm just a customer service person, not the engineer! I have a PAR meter and when I get the light, I'll do a PAR map. It's not a high end meter but good enough for reasonably accurate map.

I'm about to order a 200 Diablo. I planned on using it in my 2x2 but I'll run it in my 2.75x2.75 (32"x32"x60" )and see what results I get. And, I'll put it up against any other light in it's class that you care to name. I've no doubt it will flower that tent, just that 2 would be better IMO. I pay no attention to wattage, it's meaningless when talking about LED lighting. If you want an in depth discussion of this light, feel free to contact support@hlg.com with your concerns, they are the experts. I state my opinions based on what I have used myself and I don't have a single board Diablo at this time.
And I dispute "burning" a plant in a 2x2 with a single QB 288 unless you run it too hard. My 288 is running at 80 watts.

And yep, thta's an old, Slate One heatsink.

My 288 runs at one speed, so that would be what? 120w? The driver will dim, but it is the one wit the two little plugs so I don't bother. I have the headspace in my closet. I have run two plants, but one is better. Thje two were slighlty small, about 19 inches tall, I have had singles approach 4 feet. I don't have a tent, so I am in one end of a 2.5 deep closet. I am effectively using a three wall space with white painted walls that is 2. 5 x 2.5. My question is why would i use what the manufacturer says is a lights that 2.5 times as powerful as my current light in the same space?

Hey guys…I’m a total newbie to the indoor grow. Used to be quite active outside and only used fluorescents to start, then outdoors for the duration. But I decided to jump back in and bought the HLG 320xl. I know even less about electronics and the variables of a particular light. Someone I trust told me to buy the HLG light, so I did. My space is only 2’x6’ w/ 8’ ceiling.
I can say that my plants have generally grown better with the intensity dialed back a notch or two. It puts out very little heat, although the driver does get warm if it’s cranked up.
I’m told that better results will come if the temps are 81-84f…..I wish I had known earlier b/c I ran my first grow at 72-74f.
I guess the proof is in the pudding and if a clueless newbie like me can get some decent results, the light is certainly doing it’s job. I am about to harvest 3 super skunk autos.
2 very different phenos but both have buds that are hard as a rock and bigger than I deserve.
I’m a huge HLG fan and really feel like I can improve quite a bit on my next grow.

Setup the light yesterday, cant dimm it to my desired 60 Watts for my 2x2s so I just let it at its possible minimum setting of 77.8 Watts. It's freaking bright! Took PAR measurements (Apogee SQ520) at 12 inches / 30 cm at the edges of the lamp and ppfd doesnt go below 630, AND 530 at 15 inches / 38-40 cm. I'm very happy. This light is now set up in my current mum tent that will soon become my Auto tent to be the home fo two Autos... pretty excited to see what will turn out with this light!

If I point my little Home Depot oscillating fan up at my 288 board from the floor, that completely cools the fixture. Doesn't
t take much to dissipate any heat apparently. without it, the driver and heat sink are a bit warm to the touch. This is all at full blast.
