Mephisto Genetics Haunts Sour Crack-a-Lackin 1st HPS Grow

So we're at day 37 now and the cab is in full of bushy goodness, they've had a couple feeds of bloom just over half the recommended dosage. There's some yellowing going on at the bottom and I've still got a slight cupping issue on one of the girls and slight clawing on the other, i did recently check the runoff after i watered them which i don't normally do but it came out at 5 so i'm guessing this is probably the issue, should i give them a flush or a top dressing of dolomite lime?
I also purchased this interesting extension lead from Energenie which has allowed me to do away with the segmented timers, basically you connect it to your pc via usb and can then set each socket individually when to turn on and off etc.

I am using mostly CFL now. Hard to get enough photons to the leaves.
How many watts of CFL did you have before?

I had 6 X 30w cfls. What are photons and how do they effect the grow?

Good question! The easy superficial answer is: photons are light and more light is better.
But when I try to understand more it gets messy and complicated.

Then there is the endless discussion about the effect of spectrum:

Blah, blah blah.
I am trying to guess how much CFL to use in my grow room. So I am interested to understand why HPS gave you better results.

I think it is reasonable to say that a good HPS puts out twice as much light per watt as CFL, maybe more!
To equal your 150 watt HPS, I need 300 watts of CFL!
Maybe I need to buy a HPS like yours.

What a read that was!

When i used CFL's throughout my first year of growing i always found the nugs to be fluffy but when i switched to hps about 4 weeks before the end of my last grow the nugs were rock solid and a lot bigger.

Thanks, I think.
I hope you are not offended that I am scribbling on your Grow Journal. I am still learning and this stuff is confusing.
Your experience switching from CFL to HPS helps me understand. I will test if doubling the CFL can give hard nugs.

Have you looked into these as supplementary lighting? I was curious if anyone had ever tested these out.
