Indoor Growing Scrog

I've read through this entire thread twice, second time I took notes.
I also read all the nuggets of info in your replies on Instagram, 420.
I've collated as best I could, below. I definitely might have missed things,
or it's possible the answers to the few questions in my list below weren't extant.
I have simplified the nutrients, taking your suggestion in one of your comments
that the GH duo was possibly good enough. I've also rounded days where I could,
from things like 12-14 days, to 14 days. What do you think? ...

Part 1.

1. Soak Grodan 1.5” cubes in 5.5 pH RO water. Test runoff for ~6.0 pH.

2. Insert hatchling with ~1” tap root and shell on, into cube. No nutrients.

3. Place under lights, 24 hours a day, PPFD and DLI to be determined, ( at temp and RH ranges of? )
Water 2 times a day until sprout?

4. After sprout ( cotyledons only, or also one set of true leaves? ),
insert 1.5” cube into Grodan 4x4” cube, pre-treated for ~6.0 pH, and nutrient soaked with FloraNova Grow at 350ppm.

5. Water 2 or more times a day with 350ppm FloraNova Grow to soak the cube, for about 14 days.

6. At around day 14 increase FloraNova Grow to 650ppm, and bend and stake the top to horizontal. Water to soak the cube
( how many times a day, through veg? )

Part 2. Coming soon.

would love these notes copied to get arranged like this I have been reading and trying to put it in my head but my memory isn't what it once was.

You must have got it dirt cheap then. :d5:
Great lights for the price!

From what I can see in your pics everything you’re doing is working for you Brother!
Hard to flatten out 8 plants in such a long span with nylon scrog net without getting a bow in the middle of your canopy but it looks like you got them scrogged out just in time. Is there any way to install a couple more uprights on both sides of your tray/table to attach your netting so you can pull down to a lower level? Even a couple free standing posts in the middle on both sides would work if you can’t attach to your table.
You’re in your preflower stage so a little early for under canopy lighting but would be good in 2-3 weeks from now. Temp and R/H are spot on and no need to bring it down into the 40’s until mid to late flower. Your uprights are tall enough to where you could easily drop another net over your canopy and spread your girls out even more.
Thanks for posting and please keep us updated.

Your numbers seem high.
This is the EC/PPM chart I go off of

Looking good Bro! 🫵
Nice clean setup! Expect to easily double and possibly quadruple your yields with your first 420autoflower scrog. Some big pieces of cardboard with white paint or cheap mylar sheeting taped or stapled to it would be great to lean up against the sides of your frame to get some reflection.

Well said my friend! :headbang:
The method is definitely not for everyone. Might not appeal to commercial growers but great for us home hobbyist that like to try new techniques and think out of the box.
Can we see how your schwazzing went? :eyebrows:

Glad you found your way over here @TristanTheDestroyer!
You should be feeding 0.7EC (350ppm) right off the bat and bump the nutrient strength up to 1.3EC (650PPM) by day 12-14.
I use a turkey baster when I fertigate new seedlings and feed once a day even though the 4x4” cubes always feel soaked. Go ahead and water to runoff and no need to worry about over watering.
I drop my Grodan 1.5” started cubes into pre soaked 4x4”s right after my seedlings sprout.
Calmag won’t be needed if your base N-P-K already has some in it. The General Hydroponics FloraNova Grow I like to use during veg has some already and I’ve never had to add any extra. Might want to look into an inexpensive and easy to install countertop R/O unit if you want that quality H2O.

Is the function of the second net going to be something that i need to have a second strechable nylon net to keep stuff down or just bulk cheap stuff like this (pic) 2m x 10m to redirect them a little bit with 2 pieces of with put together cheaply?

You don't need a 2nd net, that's just for additional support if you get a real monster.

Thanks 420!

Reflections will be from white shower curtains hung from the rack.

Since you mentioned reflections …

I live in a tropical climate, whole house AC is required most of the year.

When I first started growing 6 months ago, it was clear that
heat from the lights at higher dimmer settings was going to make
the entire endeavor difficult and expensive.

I happened to have bought Migro Aray lights for a 2’x2’ tent. The bars
were too far apart for my situation, for all of the grow.
I got Photone + diffuser, and was amazed the
difference near-proximity reflections made — big jump
in PPFD. So I first made DIY spacing brackets for the lights, of various lengths,
and second, plywood moveable reflecting panels. I also cut holes in
the tabletop to suspend the 2 gallon buckets from, for closer proximity
to under-canopy reflections. I get through veg ( LST with wires/ties
and a near flat canopy so lights can be only 5” above )
at 40% dimmer, 50 watts per light, with a bit more PPFD than is
generally recommended, and through flower ( with plants ~16”
in diameter ) at ~1,000 PPFD across the canopy, with
60% dimmer, 75 watts per light. Near proximity reflections
made growing practical for me.View attachment 1720738View attachment 1720739
Beautiful setup Brother!
Love how you have the top of your buckets at table height. Never seen anyone do that before. Definitely easier on the back.
Obvious you’ve been around the block a few times. 😉

Super clean!! That should make working on those girls so much more pleasant! Great setup!
:yeahthat:

By the way, I have been studying cannabis propogation assiduously for 6 months, starting from zero. I wish I could remember how I stumbled across 420's thread here, because his work/info and willingness to share is over the top the most useful. Mille grazie ( a thousand thanks ) 420!
You’re very welcome @Mongoose!

I love the R for the registration mark, a nice touch , I don't know even how to type that out :crying::crying:
Lol… I didn’t even notice that until you pointed it out.
:crying:
This method and spreading-out the plant result in each plant taking up a lot of space. How does productivity in terms of weight of buds per square foot growing space compare with filling the tent, all its space, with more plants and maintaining a level canopy?
Comparable!
My SCROG grows yield close to the same amount as my SOG grows.
Got a little carried away germinating my new run and have more than I need so I’m thinking of running a small SOG with the leftovers.

Yes. Around $350. But depends on the level, Trademark is less than Registered Trademark, and depends also on a bunch of other things, so can be more expensive. ( I have some background in this stuff. )
Thanks for the info!
I might be wrong but what I’ve been told is that for me to apply for a trademark the 420autoflower method would have to be a business. I was considering switching to a business account on a couple other platforms awhile back but heard from other members that there’s always a risk of my account being deleted if I changed due to cannabis content.

Looks like you’ve done your homework @Mongoose !
I soak my 1.5” starters in 6.0 (250ppm) feed and the 4x4” cubes in 6.0 (350ppm) feed.

Ok to insert new seedling into 1.5” starter with a 1/4” tail and a thin light layer of rockwool on top

Fertigating 2 times a day is fine for the first 20 days of life but then bump it up to 4-5 times around day 21-25 if everything is going how it should.

Sorry! I should have some type of tutorial put together by now but never expected so much interest. Been posting these grows for a couple years and my buddy @DOA has been the only one that expressed any interest in learning up until just a little while ago.
My new seed to harvest on IG has more detailed info and a good way to learn.

The second net will not be needed if you your canopy is manageable.
How is everything doing? Were you able to pull the middle down a bit more?

Status …

1. Plants: FastBuds Mexican Airlines, FastBuds Gorilla. Day 12, counting from full cotyledons.
( Roots emerged from bottoms of 4” blocks at Day 9 ).
2. Light: 24/7, 650 ppfd, 55 dli, 6 inches from canopy. 250 watt light, currently at 40% power.
3. Fertigation: pH ~6.0, 250 ppm. Watering from runoff 4 times a day, 2 cups each time.
4. Environment: Temp 78, humidity 45%.

Notes …

Light: 650 ppfd is usually recommended for intensity
at this stage of growth. But 55 dli is higher than 40 dli often
recommended for this stage. Will monitor leaves’ reactions.

Fertigation: RO + General Hydroponics CALiMAGic + General Hydroponics FloraMicro, FloraBloom, FloraGro.
( Have had too many run-ins with nutrient burn, will gradually build up to your recommended ppms, 420.
Ordered General Hydroponics Floranova Grow & Bloom, will switch in a week or so.
Tired of measuring/mixing 4 nutrients, too! )

Environment: Add reflecting panels. Additional 6" blocks on order, shipping times for that size are lengthy.

Off to a good start!
Roots coming through the bottom at day 9 is right where they should be.
Love your sterile environment bro… makes your grow look very cool and clean. 😎

@420autoflower @DOA (and everyone else :) )

Do you think it's time for a "real" schwazz-session? (For plant no.1+2. The late bloomer still getting light defoils, but not too heavy. She is still in first week of flower imho).

I did leave tucking and light to medium defoiliation along the way.
I've got the feeling they are still stretching.

Today at Day 54

How did your second schwazz go and how long did it take you? Any updated pics?

Had to zoom in and have a close look at those busted knuckles. Whew. Gonna be tough doing that the first time! Would be neat to see a video of you performing that operation. Do you massage them into compliance first, or just go for it?
