Indoor GreenBean's Grows

Glad to see that you're getting the issue resolved with the driver for the light but Atreum hasn't covered themselves in glory over this. Sorry to hear about that. I think that 3200 is great value and recommend to other growers so it's a bit of a pisser to see them futzing around over a damned driver.

Great looking plants! When I saw that colas sticking up, it looked an awful lot like one of my previous Gorilla Glue grows where yield was through the roof. A big difference is that you were smart enough to put up a scrog net! I foolishly thought "Nah, I don't need a trellis for this" and I ended up having to tie colas to the top of the tent to stop them from falling over.

1: I love Atreum, they have AWAYS been good to me. Mike is a great guy. They should be WAY bigger than they are. When I was looking for bar setups back then, there weren't as many. I wanted to go ChilLED, but wasn't sold on them because the bars aren't 4' long. I know they are great, but I really wanted 4' long bars, or as close as I could get for the reasons I have already mentioned. So that left Atreum and Photontek. And what sold me on Atreum was a few reviews I saw, the fact that they were offering sorta DIY kits like ChilLED does, and obviously pricing. As well as the components.

So I bought two of their kits - 1 for my 4x2 and one for my (now not in use) 4x4. Luckily I have that 4x4 Meanwell to fall back on it's a 10 minute job to swap a driver out.

COVID sort of killed their model that was offering the previous kits? Or maybe that was their plan all along? Dunno. But I think they made a misstep and didn't keep some things like drivers, etc on hand. So now they are trying to source one.

Which, you know, shouldn't be hard. I can buy one right now. But I won't. That is their job. They will handle it, but I agree that I don't want to pull teeth for it to happen. I would still recommend their newer lights.

2: That's not a scrog. It's just a couple sets of high CFM bars that I utilize to tie branches down to, with garden wire, when a plant gets big and I need to open it up wider/ stop stuff from flopping over. I don't like using a net for autos. They don't work for ME with autos. But I am doing a photo scrog after the next auto run.

This is my current Gorilla Glue (another Bonsai):

I am not truly complaining, she is all bud and almost every leaf is a sugar leaf.

However, no need for a trellis with this one. : )

Now, if I said this is her in a 100-gallon pot, she would be impressive.

Sorry for hijacking GreenBean.

When you said on another thread that you were also growing a Blackstrap I wanted to come and see if I finally might get "the one."

We'll see, she is certainly getting the love.

If I were to grow that plant again, I would not top it or manipulate it as heavily the next round. Just to see what happens. I would likely not even bend it over until the 3rd week even.

I keep flip-flopping on whether or not to grow Black Strap immediately, again, after this run finishes.

But I think I am going to. Now that I see/think that Black Strap WOULD benefit with a little more hands on, I think I should do it to learn. And also because if I don't, it'll be a long time before I get around to it again. After the upcoming photo scrog, I am taking some time off from growing. Meaning, no more summer grows for me indoors. I am planning to possibly to an in ground auto grow outside for fun this summer though.

Grow it again brother. She sure did look impressive. The more you grow a certain strain, the better you grow it each time

I'm like everyone else in the sense that I can't resist growing new strains a lot. So many seeds to go through, which is why I had to stop buying them. I've still got stuff like Night Owl and Rocbud, more Mendel that I haven't even sprouted. By the time that I do they will be like old news to most. Not that that matters but I just had to stop buying seeds.

Agreed - as long as you don't need the light for production, I can see the point in the "letting them do their job approach". It's still a pisser that they haven't made you whole.

Re. no more DIY and Covid - I visited a local hydro store about a year ago and they told me that business boomed during Covid because they were seeing a lot of money that FedGov was handing out. Once that dried up, their business dropped off. Turning that idea around, that demand for cannabis should have increased sales.

One significant issues for DIY vs ready out of the box - if you're selling DIY, you're just selling electronic parts and the winner in that market is the one who has the deep pockets to buy in volume. There's very little room for either innovation or markup. There's more opportunity for profit when you sell a finished product.

Aslo, the Growcraft X3 (and the X2 when that model was around) are 42.5" long and it really does fill up the tent. The Atreum 3200 is a bit shorter than that at 40.7". One of the reasons I went with Growcraft was the evenness of the light cast but I'd be happy to cut off a couple of inches in length (said no man ever) to make it easier to work with.

I called it a "scrog" because I didn't want to insult you by calling it a mere "trellis" :)

I think that that is sorta what happened with Atreum, though I do not have any "insider info". I think they quickly sold out of their kits during Covid, they also did make premade larger lights as well, and once the parts were gone, the supply chain went to hell.

So not sure if that is why they went to solely premade lights due to that. Or if it was planned and just happened. Or happened faster.

Hopefully they will resolve it soon.

:)

Yes. I am using the Atreum ARA-41 bars on both of my kits. They are 44.5" in length. I believe when the time comes to replace them that I would go with a Photontek 600W. Just gets me excited.

Day 71. We're starting on the Full Tilt feedings now. Starting to show the signs of getting closer to harvest. I'm figuring 3-4 weeks out now. You can see that Black Strap has some really big fruits. But like I said, I want to run her again because I think this one needs a little more hands on and I can get her to produce way better. Mango Smile obviously is big. But with both of these girls, I think I have found that fine line between going too hands on and too hands off.

No photo update today of the current grow. We're at day 75 I believe. Couple random notes:

1: I finally got around to weighing the FB Banana Purple since it is good and cured. End result for the plant was 17 oz. Pretty good. Here's the thing - I don't like it. Mine didn't purple at all - which is fine, that's really not a big deal. But it also smells like incense? And has an incense sorta taste? Hard to explain. It does it's job. But will likely go to the extractor.

I seem to have this issue with almost all FB stuff. They usually yield well, but it's all kind of middy to me. My two biggest single yielders were the FB Orange Sherbet (22 oz) and this Banana Purple (17 oz).

The Orange Sherbet IS actually really good - so there is one keeper. But that is like one out of however many strains of theirs I have tried. Not sure what is up there. I don't have that issue with any other "breeders". Just an observation. Other breeders - Meph, Night Owl, Mendel, their strain descriptors are generally very accurate it seems. And the quality is there.

2: I am looking at Black Strap today, and it's not a super tall plant. But she's gonna yield pretty well - at least 8-10 oz. So should I grow it right away again? I have my notes on what to do next to get more (I think) out of her.

So what do you guys think? Slot 1on the next run is going to Double Grape = the first Meph seeds I ever bought, and I have never ran it. Another reason I have stopped buying seeds. I just need to work through what I already have. Bear in mind that this next auto run is likely the last until next fall. Gonna run one photo after this next auto run and then take a break. Summer electricity costs are too brutal. And I have plenty of product:

So any thoughts, or votes, on what to run for slot 2? Here are the candidates.

1: Black Strap (again).
2: Night Owl - Cosmic Apprentice
3: Meph - Orange-utan
4: Roc - True Mac
5: Roc - Magic Runtz
6: Roc - Raspberry Runtz

Let me know if you have a vote that you'd "like to see". If not I'm thinking Cosmic Apprentice. Or a Roc. Or BS again.

And as a refresher, here is the previous run before this one, of Banana Purple Punch on chop day:
