New Grower First timer here, am i screwed?

I just picked up 5 gallon fabric bags (smart pots?), and a bag of coco loco soil. I am ready to start over.

Those are big pots. 2 gallon, maybe 3 would be better IMO. Autos don't need big pots. All that will do is slow down the cycle so it takes longer to get to harvest where the trichs are cloudy and amber. Smaller pots of coco can see you done in 70 days. Big pots.... could take 90 days. Just as a general rule of thumb. There are other factors involved for how long it takes.

So big pots will work though, right? They guy who sold them to me said they would be just fine.

Yes, they will work. But why do it? Take them back and get smaller ones if you have time.

The thing about autos is they should be grown super fast. That way you get more grows done in a year. More plans equals more varieties you can try. And more grows per year could equate to at least as much yield as doing slower large plant grows in larger pots. And faster grows reduces risk IMO. If you have a big pots and long durations you're going to be in flower for weeks on end and that might mean you run in to issues like PH, bugs etc that could be avoided with shorter grows.

But these are just nice to haves. Do what you want to do. And again, those pots will be fine. You could load them up with 3.5 to 4 gallons of coco instead of 5.

So you just transplanted them into new soil? I have no idea how the root system is on mine, im assuming not very big since the plants are tiny. Should i just scoop them out, but go wide and knock off the dirt?

Correct..your root system is not developed or deep. Scoop wide and deep, be gentle. I put mine in some very "airey" black gold potting soil in a solo cup with very little watering and it took off. Once it got to its feet I moved it into a 1.7 gal pot with coco/pearlite. It worked for me. Needless to say I was surprised at the end result but at the time I felt I really had nothing to lose. My other option was to cull. As someone else already mentioned, time is valuable and I wasn't worried if it died. I do need to add I run HLG quantum boards in regards to lighting.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, really liking this community so far.
