Day 10

Feeds have been bumped up to around 500ppm and I'm increasing light intensity by ~40 PPFD per day until the end of the week. I aimed for 250 PPFD during week one, and will gradually work this up to 500 PPFD for the remainder of veg. This works out to around 32,000 lux with my HLG QBs. I will be doubling this to 64,000 lux and 1000 PPFD for flowering. As of today, lights are at around 23,000 lux or 375 PPFD. The GC continues to be ahead of the BK.

Here's some pics at day 10 with my cat Gravy checking things out:

She approves. I suspect these will be going into 1 gallon pots in the next few days.

Day 11 - GC is Transplanted

The Green Crack has 3 nodes and I've transplanted into a one gallon pot. I'm thinking the Bubba Kush will follow suit tomorrow. I also forgot to mention that both seeds are by Canuk Seeds from the True North Seedbank. These folks seem to have a mishmash of positive and wonky reviews on other platforms lately so we'll see how this goes. Anyway, so far so good.

Stats: Lux currently at 25,000, which is around 375 PPFD. Fertigating twice daily at 550ppm (1.1EC), pH at 6.0. Temps at ~24 deg C; RH at ~64%.

I'm almost positive that Canuk and Oasis are both TNSB's white label brands. I've got 1x of their Aurora Borealis, Berry Blue, Cheese, Lemon Drop, Magnum, and RPK. Magnum didn't make it above ground, put out a taproot and started pushing a stem up but just didn't make it. Culled today as it was decomposing in the cube. RPK put out a tiny nib but never pushed out a taproot, 14 days later and I'm just letting it sit right now but it will probably end up getting tossed as well. Cheese, AB, and LD are all above ground, BB is pushing out but not quite there yet, so still waiting for her. Was actually going to go looking for some Canuk/Oasis journals in just a bit.

Yeah Canuk is definitely the TNSB brand. That's where I bought my Dinafem auto seeds I used in my last two runs. The Green Crack photo was a freebie with that order. I honestly had very little hope for it, lol. The BK I bought as-is to give the GC a buddy, or incase the GC didn't sprout. Hopefully this doesn't all go to shite, as it's been pretty smooth sailing thus far :smoking:

A Quick Word on CocoForCannabis

Hi there,

I'm about to post my Week 2 update, but before I do, I want to take a quick moment to discuss a few items regarding Week 1 / seedling nutrients. As I've mentioned, I've been largely following CocoForCannabis ("CFC") as a guide. Namely, their high-frequency fertigation strategy, as well as their guide for buffering coco.

One deviation I made was with respect to Week 1 nutrients: CFC provides a customized Week 1 nutrient plan that essentially bumps up cal-mag with respect to the base nutes, on account of coco's extra cal-mag requirement. However, I did a bit of math of my own: I've been building a spreadsheet that keeps track of GH nutes by week, and calculates individual component ppms, i.e., ppm contributions from N, P, K, Ca and Mg on a weekly basis for the newly updated GH light, medium and aggressive feedcharts.

While the CFC Custom Week 1 mix seems heavy in Ca, the mix is actually ~500ppm, and you have to dilute it down to ~200ppm for seedlings. Doing so reduces the calcium in the mix down to ~33ppm. However, simply following the GH Week 1 'Medium' solution provides around ~25ppm of calcium. I didn't think this extra 8 ppm of calcium was worthy of a custom formula, so I decided to scrap the CFC custom seedling formula and simply stick to the GH chart as-is for Week 1. GH provides some flexibility with being able to bump up cal-mag in later weeks if required. The 'medium chart' has 1.9mL/gallon for Weeks 2-9, which I'll probably round up closer to 2.5mL/gallon since I'm in coco. I'd be wary of doing this if I were running autos due to imbalances at low ppm's, but I'm not too worried about this with photos in coco. According to my calculations, the medium charts with this small calcium boost should put my calcium levels around 100-120ppm during veg/flower, which should suffice.

Cheers,

Week 2
Week 2

Hey everybody,

Today is Day 14 of my grow, and things are coming along nicely. Both plants have transplanted into their intermediary 1-gallon pots: the Green Crack ("GC") on Day 11, and the Bubba Kush ("BK") on Day 12. I watered the plants before transplanting, and I'm glad I did. Because I'm using 50/50 coco/perlite, the mix is super loose and airy. I feel if these had not been watered, they would have fell apart in my hands. Fortunately, the transplants went off without a hitch and the plants didn't seem to notice.

I've been bumping my lights up around 2,500 lux per day, although I didn't do this for a 48 window around the transplants so as to not push them too hard. Anyway, as today is the last day of week 2, the lights are currently sitting at around 32,000 lux, which is around 500 PPFD for my HLG's. They'll stay around here for the rest of veg. I plan on doubling this for flower. Total power draw from both lights right now is around 220W from the wall, plus another 14W or so from my Red and Blue pucks.

Feeds have been twice daily at around 550ppm, pH around 5.8-6.2. Early seedling feeds were closer to 6.2, but more recently I've been bringing this down closer to 5.8.

VPD has been around 0.7, but now as I enter veg, I'll be pushing this up to around 0.8-1.0. Today, I removed the warm-mist humidifier from my tent and replaced it with a cool-mist humidifier, which I'll use for the rest of veg.

Without further ado, here are some pics :)

Day 19

The Green Crack has been topped at the fifth node:

So I'm having second thoughts about the SCROG since these ladies are so short, with such tight internodal spacing. Would a mainline be better suited to smaller, tighter indicas?

My main concern now is I topped at node 4 to facilitate the SCROG. However, the mainlining guides seem to recommend topping at node 3 to maintain ideal symmetry of the mainline.

Is it safe to "re-top" a plant that was topped at node 4 down to node 3 a day later? I'm not seeing any signs of stunted growth from the original topping, and the plants are looking super healthy. Or should I stick with the SCROG, or perhaps a different training method altogether for short, tight indicas?

I've seen people top twice, but in such a short time I might be worried about stress.

How about some aggressive LST to couple with the topping already done?

.edit ooh, just noticed that these are photos instead?
