I'm not the best person to advise on hydro as I don't grow that way. Let me see if I can get someone else with hydro experience to advise you.

Ok, I fed the plants... and checked the pH I used the Up/Down solution until I got it to 5.8 I wanted to make sure my meter was right so I calibrated it....

Held POWER until it said Cal, released and then put it in the 7.01 it said calibrated and I was satisfied.... I then turned it back on and placed it in the 7.01 solution and it read 4.83.... wtf?

I went out to grab some food and when I got home I decided to check my 5.8 perfected water again because I was curious.... it read 8.38!!! WTF!? lol

Any ideas boys and gals? As always, much appreciated!!!
is your solution changing or holding temps?
did you use ph up and down to change ph time is needed for the change to occur especially in ph up products
sorry misses what kind of water your using

Is your new meter pH only? You really need a PPM meter to go along with it. Sounds like your water is soft and there's no buffer to hold the pH. I couldn't do hydro without a PPM meter. I use the Hanna combo 98129. If this is the case you will need a CalMag supplement to get your starting water source up to 125-150 PPM.

The water is holding the temp pretty steady as far as I can tell.
I did use pH up and down, so that would explain why I only saw a change every hour or so and it would hold.
I have it at a steady 5.9, I checked it the past three hours and it has been between 5.85-5.92
The water that is in there now is Springtime Drinking Water that sat in my car for about a week lmao...
I now have 7 Gallons of tap water that will be sitting until it gets used so about 2 weeks.

I have the same meter as you.
If you can tell me what I need to check I can check it by the end of the day and reply for you boss!

I appreciate the replies guys, I really do! :peace:

Okay that's good, that meter is all you need. I'd recommend getting the solution to calibrate the PPM. Until then you can go ahead and test your water PPM and the factory calibration should give you a ball park anyway. Does that water say anywhere on the label that's it's been treated by RO ( reverse osmosis)?

atleast buy a fish aquarium thermometer to monitor the solution is best kept alittle under 70 faren
a fluctuation in temps will alter ph
you can use "spring water" but it is tricky because all will be dif due to sources
R/O is the way to go
spring water can have good amounts of disolved solids or too much it depends on source again
and as jackel stated you need to know this to have proper levels

yes... as a note... res temps need to stay between 60-65... any higher and all kinds of root rot issues start

sounds like you're getting a handle on it....

jackal is on point (as always) with the ppms and the ph.... with your ph you're right on the money...

heres a few charts to help you in case you have any need:

ph vs uptake.gifph vs uptake 2.jpgph vs uptake 3.jpg

als... its beena while since i grew anything hydro... but ph will tend to swing over time no matter what... especially as the plants get bigger and cunsume nutrients and water faster and faster...

always a good idea when ph buffering to go a little at a time... and wait a good hour or more before testing and expecting "real" results...

Alrighty, I will study those charts and see what's going on :-)
I setup my timer exactly by the books... I set my ON time to 11:00 AM and my OFF time to 7:00 AM.... from 7:00 AM until 11:00 AM would give me the 4 hours of darkness I need.... I watched the timer excited to see it cut off on it's own for the first time.... it didn't work.... lol... can I get any help on that? I am going to Google it and post if I fix the issue.

Timer: Apollo 9

What can I do to get my water to keep the pH steady longer? Or will I need to work on it every day?

I just checked the stuff like suggested.

ppm- 1808
pH- Rose to 6.4, so according to that I need to drop it again... I dropped it this morning to 5.8 lol
Temp- 24 C... so 75 F... how can I help lower that? Add the fan in the room now?

Also, about the timer I think I got it working... I will post if not.

That PPM don't sound right at all. Are you sure your in PPM mode? If it is, it's way too high.

Are you cooling the room with AC? A fan want really bring down the res temp. I use some Reflectix insulation I got from Home Depot or Lowes I don't remember. Anyway it's in the insulation aisle. It will help bring the temp down by 3-4 degrees from my experience with it.
