Get them in the towel and back on the horse

My tap water is full of chloramine and tests around 8.4 out of the faucet. I've been treating it with Amquel to remove all the ammonia and cholorine/chloramine and it seems to drop the pH closer to 7 after a day or two of bubbling. My latest grow is doing a lot better since I started the treatment. Distilled is a good option also, but over time you'll need to supplement with CalMag to make up for deficiencies in the water. But that's a task for another day once you test your runoff and get a full assessment of where you are. Hang in there, we'll do all we can to help get you a good harvest! :peace:

I may ditch the distilled and go with AmQuel in my tap water. Not that expensive of a product. Will try it combined with a bubbler. If it is still too high I will use pH Down. Thanks for the info!

So it looks like I need to spend another $70 on supplies. I will be using Roots Organic Potting Soil cut with lime and perlite. Also, will pick up some pH Down when at the hydro shop. Hopefully, I can get down there next week.

Imho Flwr you should've ditched the distilled water a long time ago...

Distilled water is great for flushing but that's about it. It lacks a lot of things you need in your water. It's basically stripped down itself so it's not good to water with it regularly... This may be a part of your problem. I'm no master however, I thought using DW was a good option to use all the time and trust me it's not. You're better off adjusting or bubbling your own water. If you can't bubble it you can rotate jugs after sitting over night. Like for instance take 3 jugs... Fill #1 up and let it sit overnight, next day pour #1 into #2 and refill #1... Let it sit overnight, then pour #2 into #3, #1 into #2, then refill #1 again. Then water with the #3 jug... By then you will have let it sit out enough to essentially do the same thing as bubbling... The poor man's bubbler lol Thai Buddha Man suggested that a while back and I have been doing it since May. It works :D Just another option for you to consider.

**Sending you lots and lots of Positive Karma!!** :wiz:

Thanks WestVirginiaRebel, I only used the distilled water that last time I watered. All the other waterings were with tap water set out for a min. of 24 hrs.

With my next grow I will be using AndyBotwin's method of tap water treated with AmQuel ammonia/chlorine remover, and bubbling it. Will check the final pH too. I just bought the bubbler yesterday. I have pretty much wrote the first two off. My boyfriend wants to finish the tiny ones so he is making a space for them. One of them is flowering. Ummm....record for smallest flowering marijuana plant

Here we go again.....Today I started two more onyx in wet paper towel behind ps3. Using same germination method as first two which popped in 2 days. Tomorrow I am heading to the hydro shop to pick up a bag of Roots Organic Potting Soil, perlite, and lime. Probably a bottle of pH down too.

Here is to hoping for a MUCH better outcome with round 2 :toke:

Hmm... AmQuel huh? I might have to get into some researching asap. The only thing it takes out is the chlorine and ammonia and leaves all of the trace minerals?

Product Description:
"Kordon AmQuel Ammonia Remover The Kordon AmQuel Ammonia Remover aides in chlorine, chloramine, and ammonia removal. This formulation acts rapidly, and is safe for fishes, aquatic invertebrates, and other aquatic life. The formulation acts within minutes, and is very simply to use. Kordon AmQuel quickly and effectively removes/detoxifies ammonia, chlorine and chloramines (three of the most toxic chemicals commonly found in tap water from public utilities) from fresh and salt water. This is the first to be a true one-step liquid ammonia and chloramine remover that is simple to use. AmQuel functions as well in salt water as it does in fresh water; whereas zeolites do not remove ammonia in salt water. Features: · Fast acting within five minutes, simple to use · Effective in removing toxic pheromones · Amine-free · Add one teaspoon (5 ml) per 10 gallons of fresh or salt water · Add AmQuel to water at the recommended dosage to remove ammonia, chlorine and chloramines"

I think the main reason is for the chloramine which doesn't dissipate after being left out like chlorine.

Nice... i think im going to get a little bottle and test this stuff out. I guess theres no real way to tell when its worked right..maybe smell?

Yes, it's an alternative to filtering which would remove the trace minerals. I've found that since I started treating my water the pH is more stable and the plants have less mystery ailments. But I live in a city that uses high levels of chloramine in the tap water, so you may want to check on that. If it was only chlorine, I would just bubble the water.

Sounds great Flwr! Andy definitely knows his stuff so he'll most certainly take you in the right direction! I'm sure you're next run will be much better!! We're all here to help! :smokebuds:

Went to they hyrdo store today. Would have been a good trip if not for the horrendous traffic. It is usually a lot of cars due to it being a major city, but there was a bad accident. That backed things up for like 6 hrs!

They were really helpful and laid-back at the hydro store. Plus, they gave me a bunch of free stuff. They even had free cold sodas, and loaded everything in the car. Too bad it is sooo far away. I picked up a bag of Roots Organics Potting Soil, perlite, and pH down. I was given a package of Roots Organics Oregonism XL. http://www.aurorainnovations.org/oregonism_xl.html I have been reading about it as I am not too sure about its application, etc. They were out of lime, but I can pick that up at Lowes.

One Onyx seed has sprouted already, and the other looks swollen like it's about to sprout. Tomorrow I should have them planted!
