I did some LST on Boudicca last night and she seems to have responded well. Its crazy how fast they re orient the colas up again. She seemed a bit dry so i watered with some plain bubbled water. I did notice that some of the pistil tips had turned orange but thankfully this isn't happening on the main cola. There are also a couple burnt leaf tips. Could this be some nute burn? If so I wont Increase the dose for her next feeding. I only noticed it yesterday and this would be a couple days after her first bloom feed with miracle grow quick start. Im also not opposed to switching to something else for bloom ferts if anyone has recommendations and especially if anyone thinks the MG could be damaging.
In other news the Chronic Ryders fully emerged. One looks like something took a tiny bite out of the cotyledon. Hopefully it doesn't show any other weird mutations. We don't have names for these two yet. My girlfriend and I were thinking of sister names. Anyone have any suggestions?
Updates: added some more lighting and am planning a DIY LED
Hey everyone got some updates to share,
Boudicca doesn't seem to have minded the training and seems to be starting to bulk up a little bit. Her sugar leaves are starting to get nice and sugary . I added a 65w and a 23w of 2700k cfls to her as well. I have noticed a tiny bit more burn of an orange reddish tint. But only in a couple of spots.
Arwen (oops on the spelling before) has been been looking good and has now got 2 X 23w cfl at 6500k. I hope i can push her to bush out some.
Finally we have the newly christened Eos(left) and Aurora(right). They both seem to be growing quite well despite being under the mars reflector with both switches on. Can't wait to see these girls explode. Also, with all the extra lights i have still been able to keep it around 79 F. I am also assembling the parts to build my own COB light using a vero 18 chip in 3000k. The stuff should be arriving over the next week and I will update as i get it built. Im planning to use it as supplemental lighting one one or more of the plants.
I finished my DIY LED a couple of days ago and have had it trained on the larger two plants. They seem to love it and are stretching up towards its warm light. I used a single 3000k Bridgelux Vero 18 COB driven at 1350ma and producing roughly 40w of light. Because of how much the plants seem to like it i am considering building another for the other side of my grow space. I was wondering about something though. I have been running my 450w reflector with both switches on to try to get the max light into my space. However i am growing small plants as well as large ones and wonder if the small guys would benefit from either added blue light or from just running the reflector with only the grow switch on. Anyone have any opinions about this? I was thinking if i do build another light it will be in 5000k.
Everything else is going pretty smoothly. Boudicca has been getting a little bit of burn from the Miracle Grow but I'm not too worried. She is only getting water and molasses after this week. Her smell is becoming amazing very fruity and sweet with some hints of spiciness. I can't wait to try her out. Here of some shots of her nugs bulking up:
day 48
Day 49
Arwen is going crazy in the new light and has put up two branches that are equal with the top and many other small branches. She is also starting to smell a bit. I do think i started Boudicca too early on the flowering nutes and may have stunted her a little. I am going to make sure to wait until Arwen stops growing up before i make the transition. If it means using less of the MG overall i am all for it. Here are some shots of Arwen and the babies Eos and Aurora.
Day 27
Day 11
They are both doing quite well and seem like they are maybe slightly different phenos with Aurora having a bit longer leaves and Eos being wider leaves and shorter overall. Im excited to watch them take off.
Everything seems to be going fine. Boudicca has a bit of burn which you can see in the pics but her smell is developing nicely and i can't wait for the next couple of weeks to zip by.
Boudicca Day 51
Arwen Day 29 she has been growing like crazy under the COB and put on about an inch just in the last 24 hours.
Aurora Day 13
Eos Day 13 you can see her mutated leaf which has the prong grafted to the body.
unnamed Ogre Day 2
2 X unnamed Easy Ryders just poking up their heads.
Everything is moving right along. Got some pics of all the gals. We also named the three young ones. The Ogre is Inanna and the Easy Ryders are Willa and Mina.
That first pic shows just how big Arwen has gotten recently she is even with boudicca and seems to have slowed/stopped. She has developed a bit of a weird problem though which i think was caused by a combination of too much nitrogen and being too close to the light. She has developed several yellow patches which appear almost translucent and has had a bit of clawing on some leaves. after moving the light farther back i havent noticed any more damage. I gave her just water for last feed and will be switching over to the flowering nutes soon. Im a bit wary of the MG now so will be starting with 1.5 tsp/gal instead of 2. Eos and Arwen will get another veg feed tomorrow and Boudicca got her last water with molasses today. From here out she is only getting plain water till her leaves are mostly gone. Im excited for the first harvest. Also gonna start the little ones on veg nutes soon.
If anyone has advice on Arwen's discoloration i would love to hear it.
Boudicca Day 57
Arwen Day 35
Inanna Day 8
Mina and Wila Day 7
Updates: feedings and a bit more yellowing on arwen
Fed all of the gals over the last three days. Boudicca received her last molasses and is on only water. Arwen was switched to the MG at 1tsp/gal and molasses at 1tsp/gal. Aurora and Eos both got 2tsp/gal of fish fert. And finally the little ones all received 1tsp/gal of the fish.
The yellowing on Arwen has seemed to have spread a bit more. I tried to get some pics that show it clearly. If anyone had any ideas i would appreciate them. Also probably gonna pop in to the live help thread to see if i should be worried. Im not terribly concerned though cause she seems to be growing just fine and has almost reached 20" tall.
I noticed that Inanna also has a mutation. Her second set of leaves are both single blade. Anyone ever seen this before? I found a thread on mutations somewhere so it doesn't seem that out of the ordinary.
Also noticed that when i took the extra cfl's out that temps dropped to around 74-75 but that humidity went up to 55%. Should i be concerned with Bud rot in Boudicca? I have a fan circulating air around the buds so i am hoping she will be fine.
All the girls and Boudicca at Day 59
Arwen day 37
Aurora and Eos Day 21
Inanna Day 10
Willa and Mina Day 9
