Outdoor First grow, late outdoor organic attempt

Letting the girls catch some rays.

Looking good there - no signs of yellowing leaves so should run for many weeks yet and those buds should fatten up nicely. Keeping the rain off them will help ward off bud rot but do keep an eye on them if it gets humid in the tent.

Humidity has been super high at night, but normal during the day, provided the greenhouse is properly vented.

Unfortunately, yesterday the greenhouse was closed up more than I realized and it stayed swampy all day... Today There was a single spot of mold on both the Med Gom and SODK. Mold has been trimmed off, hopefully that is that. Trichs are still clear, so I really don't want to chop yet.

There are a few products (like GreenCure) that have been suggested elsewhere that are mould stoppers but certainly don't fit an organic grow if that's what you want tho personally I might consider it myself having had a lot of mould this year.

Alas if you get mould early (which it seems you have) the only solution is to make sure you improve ventilation - remove ALL of infected cola/buds - don't be a wee trim here or there - just cut out the infected stalk entirely - wash down your plants on a sunny day and shake off excess water from the plant and let them dry out (this is an attempt to wash off any spores).

There is a whole section on mould prevention here but to be honest I don't think any of the 'teas' etc really work though unpasteurised milk has been recommended by an organic friend. We try a lot of stuff at the allotment on fruit n veg and tbh the organic solutions in my opinion are pretty lame - well they were on my Gooseberries anyway. Alas I can't grow weed at the allotment so I can't comment specifically on them.

Also watch your personal hygiene - if you touch a plant that has mould DO NOT go and inspect another plant that doesn't! A quick hand wash really doesn't cut it with spores and it's easy for you to infect other plants just by handling them.

If night time temps aren't too cold I'd be tempted to take the sides off if possible to improve airflow and leave the front cover (if its used) off as well. The top cover will keep the rain off and the improved ventilation will help with the humidity. It's warm and humid that normally starts the rot.

Good luck and keep a close eye on them.

Thanks! I'll be keeping a very close eye from now on. If any more spots appear, I'll take a look at that product. I'm all for organic, but rules are made to be broken.

2 more spots on the Med Gom. If she keeps this up, she is getting chopped and I'll be lucky to get an 1/8 from her.
So it goes. Maybe the sun will come out today.

My local nursery doesn't carry greencure, but say they carry another potassium bicarbonate fungicide, so I will be checking that out at first opportunity.

Good news today! No new spots of mold, the sun finally came out long enough to dry everything out, and I tracked down some potassium bicarbonate based fungicide. Spraying will commence tomorrow.

Do you know that fungicide to be safe ?
