Outdoor First grow, late outdoor organic attempt

I had no idea my post would cause such controversy LOL

Point taken, and I revise my statement to:
Oregon has a climate very similar to the one I remember growing up in Germany. I surmise it is very similar to other European countries as well, such as France or the UK. However, it is quite possible someone with more first hand knowledge may disagree with my assessment. :)

Also, I wouldn't describe most of our summers as "roasting". But then, I am comparing to the East Coast and Texas, not the British Isles.

No controversy bro, just stating that although our climates should be similar, and indeed some years they are, mostly we get far more rain.

The Gulf Stream slices up the North Atlantic on a north easterly heading, and hits the north west of the U.K. which is why western Scotland is the wettest place in the UK.

However in certain years, the 'El Nino' phenomenon in the South Pacific pushes the Gulf Stream south, making it surge through the UK as it did this year, creating an almost non existent summer with depressing clouds and rain all summer, and also extremely long and cold winters, as we are about to experience.

I love my country, but it can be a truly miserable place, which is why a sense of humour is essential.

LOL that's funny..... wouldn't the UK & Eire be frozen over if not for the gulf stream ? . I'd be pissed off if I had to live in England, 3 months was enough for me LOL ;-)

No because it's not far enough north.

I know what you mean, I work offshore, so it doesn't matter where I live, and it is tempting to go somewhere hot, but when it's good weather it's just perfect for me, not too hot nor cold.

And I live near one of many national parks in the north, and the scenery is beautiful.

Plus I love bad food and I brush my teeth with KitKat, I'm too British to live anywhere else!

If it is your weather that honed the wit of Steven Moffatt, Douglas Adams and the like, then I owe it a great deal of gratitude.

Sorry if it is miserable at times. I promise I will never compare it to my own again;)

I do love the weather here. Of recent concern is learning how atrocious water rights laws can turn a mild drought into a disaster... Which looks like it may be happening more and more:(

I believe this is the phenomenon known as, "getting frosty":)

Mini Update. No pictures today, sorry.

Blueberry, Med Gom and SODK are starting to form colas and fill out. Blueberry and Med Gom have stopped upward growth, SODK seems to be considering if it will add a couple more inches. Critical Jack is still stretching, and looking like she will be the tallest of the bunch. She has some nice puff balls of pistils formed so far.

A couple leaf miner eggs hatched in the greenhouse. Luckily, they found my spinach to be preferable to the ganja, and caused only minor damage (miner damage?) there.

The lettuce is delicious by the way.

I've never had much problems with miners on Canna - tho they rip thru my Chilli plants. I suspect it's the high silicate in the Canna leaves puts them off - as long as you keep a few sacrificial munchies in the room they will always be the first target for chompers.

PLANT SPINACH WITH YOUR OUTDOOR CROP!
In caps to draw attention, this might be really helpful to someone.
I planted spinach alongside cannabis to grow some for the garden. It appears that I won't have much of a spinach harvest for myself, but it has been an invaluable tool in alerting me to pests before they could damage the cannabis.

First it was flea beetles, the spinach and cannabis both showed some damage. Easily dealt with using a sprinle of diatomaceous earth any time damage is noted.

Next it was the leaf miners. They had zero interest in the cannabis with spinach around. I was easily able to spot the larvae and squish them inside the leaf. A bit yucky of an activity unfortunately.
Would they have even attacked the cannabis? I don't know, but they clearly hatched in it's vicinity.

For the most recent round, it has been the dreaded caterpillar. Insignificant damage on some fan leaves of the cannabis, major devastation on the spinach. Diatomaceous earth appears to have been completely ineffective, as I just found 8 fat caterpillars happily munching on my spinach. Very annoying for sure, as I really was hoping to get at least one nice wilted spinach salad with goat cheese, shallots and walnuts out of this garden, and grocery store spinach is an unacceptable substitute in that recipe...sigh...
However, I didn't find a single caterpillar on the cannabis. I don't even want to think of what they could have done to my growing buds.

So, the plants are certainly behind schedule compared to you indoor guys. 62 days for the oldest plants now, and they still have a long way to go. Buds are growing rapidly, but have yet to fill in all the way, much less start to put on weight.

If I can get this plants all the way to completion, I'm going to be really happy. They are as big as I ever hoped, right around the 2 foot mark. No apparent deficiencies, a decent bunch of bud sights, really nice plants. The buds are stacking, they are getting frosty, smell great... but the weather is turning foul. Nothing but cool, rainy, extremely humid conditions forecast for the next 10 days.

The green house is doing a great job of keeping the rain off the plants, and diffusing even the strongest wind into a gentle breeze inside. So nothing to do now but wait and hope.

Pop that shell she will love you for it
