Outdoor First grow, late outdoor organic attempt

Plants have been chopped, trimmed and washed. Tomorrow into paper bags, then jars when ready.

The plants simply weren't growing, and with the lovely Oregon gloom settling in for the fall, winter and spring, it was looking like it was only headed downhill from here. A couple mold spots deep in the buds confirmed that things might soon get worse. So, although the buds were still immature, it is the best I'm getting.

I am a bit disappointed in this grow, not because of the yield, but that the plants never got to reach full maturity. These little plants were trying really hard for me, and they wanted to be so much more.

Anyway, on to the plants: Blueberry, Med Gom and SODK were 80+ days Critical Jack 70+.

Mephisto SODK, this girl got second tallest at 26 inches. Lots of bud sights and spaced out branches. Can't wait to try her again under better conditions.

Dinafem Critical Jack, poor girl was germinated behind the other plants, and never caught up. She sure as hell tried though! I don't know if I will attempt this plant again. I might grow Jack as a photo instead.

CBDCrew Med Gom 1.0, little plant, nice pine smell.

Dutch Passion Blueberry, what a nice plant. This one gets grown again ASAP.

A couple weeks, and I should have some cured bud to talk about.

If you enjoyed following this grow, I will be doing both autos and photos in the greenhouse again next year, starting in April. Until then, I think I will head on over to Frankenstein's Laboratory to grow some autos, espaliered under shop lights, just for fun.

Stay tuned.

My first grow had to be chopped early too. However... It was so rewarding to have my own organic herb, I didn't even care. Okay, maybe a bit, but I was proud of my jar full of bud. Grats on the grow, and harvest! I'll be watching for this spring. Take care Fishy

So, I washed the buds in a H2o2 bath, then rinsed in RO water. Of course they were sopping wet, so into the garage on wire racks they went overnight, and into bags the next day. Unfortunately, the garage was at 90% RH that night...
Anyone want to guess where I'm going with this?

Yup, I have moldy buds:(
So far pretty localized. I trimmed all offending spots, lost about 2g final weight so far. The buds are certainly drying now, does anyone know if the mold will continue?

Ouch, that's a triple wammy. Being saturated, and not able to perspire (90%rh) and being dark(assuming it was, as it was over night). You should be able to stop the mold growth by making it less hospitable. I don't have the cannabis experience on this per se, but as a veteran pro cook, have dealt with mold prevention on many occasions over the years..

First thing I would try to do is move them to a spot with lower RH. Are you able to move them inside to some climate control? Maybe you can do a make shift drying cabinet in the garage with a diy dehumidifier. Depending on how much of a mass you are working with, this could just be a 5 gallon bucket, or a large rubbermaid tote. It does not have to be fancy, just something to "separate" environments. Here is a general google search for some diy dehumidifiers.
https://www.google.com/search?q=diy...9r3uEiPRM:&usg=__67dvalu5vqFhyjFFkqaeFJ0ldUU= The below pictured would be really cheap, and easy to make. Put your bud, and the diy DH in a big tub with a lid. I'm not sure how the bud would react/cure like this, but it would drop the RH% while providing a more controlled environment.

If going inside, or making a "cure cab" is not an option, maybe you could leave the lights on, and add an oscillating fan. I wouldn't have it blowing directly at the bud, but more just for air movement in the room. I would guess this to be pretty insufficient, but anything you can do to change the environment should help some. For the record, blowing air directly on/at the bud can screw up the curing process, and result in "not so happy" results. I just recommend keeping the air circulating.

I live in an area that is constantly around 80-90% RH, and have a grow cab in my garage. I know 1st hand the humidity is a bitch to deal with. Things just don't dry to well in 90%rh. If worse comes to worse, you should be able to make a bho with the molded product. I don't know this first hand, but have read it many places. From what I understand the mold is left behind on the plant matter. I would STRONGLY suggest reading up on that subject however if that is a route you HAVE to go in order to save your canabinoids.

I hope I was able to at least get you wheels turning. In my opinion, the biggest problem of the "triple wammy" is the 90%RH. Hopefully someone with more 1st hand experiences will chime in. Till later, take care.

Yeah, total rookie mistake. I figured since I washed 'em in H2O2, mold wasn't a danger for a day. Live and Learn, I guess.

There are no new spots of mold today, and the buds are partially dried, so hopefully there won't be any.

The question is, are the buds actually contaminated? Mold was evident in maybe 1% of the bud and trimmed immediately.

Well, I don't know. I've read with botritus (bud rot), you are able to remove the affected part of the plant and not be contaminated assuming that the conditions for further rot have be fixed. But again, I don't have any 1st had experience with molds on cannabis. Dealing with food we always had a no tolerance policy, and trashed it. Luckily, to my understanding herb can be salvaged as a concentrate. It might behoove you to go ask in the infirmary forum. It would probably get you a faster answer. Sorry I can't give you a good answer.:sadcry:

Thanks. I'm leaning towards smoking it. I'm going to have a discussion about the risks with my wife.
