New Grower First Grow - Dinafem Widow & Amnesia

Day 69 - Part 2:

So I decided to take one of my favourites down today, Another White Widow. This one as I have said about I am trying something different and only took the top canopy colas down as the bottom buds look like they have the potential to be big!

This harvest has been the best one so far and the easiest one to trim. The buds are 1-2x bigger than the other plants and are rock solid. The main cola branch weighed in at 64g! So should have a nice 15-20g dry off of this one.

Weigh in for the top half of the plant was a whopping 324g - I didn't dismantle the colas on this one so I would imagine there is quite of bit of stalk weight. There is still 20-30 buds left on the plant and this has gone back in the tent - all of them look like they have the potential to grow into nice buds. I am hoping to push 500g wet off this one if this experiment goes well!

This should give me 80-110g dry. So as a estimation I am at around 250-320g dry as it stands on 3 plants (Estimate). Well on target for my medicine making.

I think one of my other plants isn't going to make it the top buds are dry as f*ck - I think it was a tad too close to the light or its suffered nute burn which i find strange as its been fed the same as the others. If this is the case I think 1 plant to go bad out of 10 is not bad. The original plant I thought turned hermie in fact was not a hermie - this one is doing very well outside, a lot slower but I think it could be a monster.

Here is the beast!

I thought I may as well give it a try because this plant didn't really have any popcorn buds. It smells really nice, shame the hay smell is coming on!

A friend told me to dry in the dark and it won't smell of hay but it still is starting to smell of hay even in the dark. The first 2 were dried in a room with just the room lighting on and curtains closed. It doesn't seem to make a difference so far - I don't think a room light will cause damage to buds that have just been sitting under a 600w HPS 20hours a day for the last 2 n half months, but hey I could be wrong! But it goes to prove that if its in the dark or in a room with a light it still gets the hay smell lol

I've been drying in a cardboard box with string strung thru to hang the buds on. takes a few more days but I get the hay smell for only the 1st day or 2. on a side note Waxi wants to know what strain I nominated. me too. I want to grow 1 or 3

Day 70:

The other plants in the tent I have now tied string around the bud branches to spread them out to get as much light to all the plant. Hopefully this will increase yield.

When I come back the buds were really sticking in the jars so I took them out over night for further drying. The stems now make a snap sound but do not break which I have read is what is needed.

I have put 62% Boveda packs in today so hopefully it will help the cure. The smell has improved a bit, I think I am immune to the smell as they are in the same room as me. The first two have a woody smell to them - when i squeeze a bud I get a really strong aroma coming off them so hopefully this is the smell that will come out in a week or two

Final Weight of the first 2 harvested:

Widow - 110g - 3.9oz
Amnesia - 120g - 4.2oz

The smell of the last plant I harvested is incredible - it lost the hay smell over night and has an immense citrus smell.

Well done. Looks like your estimates were pretty accurate.
Really nice job:toke:

Maybe time to enjoy the fruits of your labor :smoking:

I have tried the widow and amnesia if I am honest the flavour isn't great, quite harsh and a bit hay flavour. I have jarred them now with a 62% boveda pack. I am hoping a 1-2 week cure will bring out the original smell and flavour. When I squeeze or tear a bud the I can smell the original aroma deep in the bud. Really hoping the cure will bring it back out

The 3rd one I've harvested seems to have kept its smell, the thing I think is key is to dry as slow as possible. The first 2 I had the window open and the weather was 23/24c. On the 3rd cut the weather was 16-18c and window shut. It could be coincidence but will see when I take down the 4th plant

Edit:

Just put a hygrometer in one of the jars and they registered 74% so they have all been put back out to dry for 6-10 hours hopefully to drop the humidity to 60%. This curing process is becoming quite a pain in the ass! I can see now why bud would never be cured on the street because its labour intensive!! They only been out an hour and the smell has improved on them.

I guess its better to put them in the jar not quite dry enough than to dry these out crispy and not being able to cure them properly. Kind of makes sense to dry them slow for the chlorophyl breakdown, I fast dried bud to smoke and the hay smell & taste was locked in.

Perfectly normal to get a dodgy tase/smell of freshly cut weed. Once they are dryed and cured properly Im sure theyll taste much better.

Yea it does seem to be improving.

Does the trichomes come in to play as much with auto flowers? My plants are so yellow now but the trichomes are still not cloudy - I did notice on my first 2-3 i harvested I get more of a head high. Bit annoying as they didn't look like they had much life in them - most of the leaves had fallen and the bud leaves yellow!

I am letting the others go as long as I can
