New Grower First Grow - Dinafem Widow & Amnesia

 Looks awesome......How does it smell. Probably similar to heaven i expect

Great job I hope the rest keeps going just as well. :d5:

Day 67:

Harvested one of the Amnesia plants today and got wet weight 381g of buds (Didn't really get any popcorns from this one). Buds are solid and dense.

I think I am going to be harvesting a plant every other day from now. Need them to hurry up as I got photos ready to go in that have been vegging for 60 days and they have outgrown my propagation tent (Hopefully they will be ok - they seem forgiving). Going to do a 4 plant scrog for my next one

White widow that was harvested yesterday has lost a whopping 170g of weight over night. Someone told me I am going to lose 90% of the original weight, I really hope that isn't the case as I would have 45g from 400g wet weight lol. I will be happy if if I get 70g dry

More great work.
What is the consensus about how much you loose in drying ? I thought what you had said around that 75%...
It's a big knock if you loose 90%
Still Great job

The first plant its now at 130g for buds and 25g for popcorn buds. I have jarred this one now, Buds are quite dry but springy (Its been hot the last few days).

The second plant currently weighing at 180g so it has lost 120g so far.

I think they must lose the initial bit of water then slow down, they are all starting to feel sticky.

The annoying thing is both the amnesia & widow smell the absolute dank but then after cutting they smell like hay. I really hope the hay smell doesn't stick around. When I pinch a bud it smells great but on the surface like hay - hopefully a week in the jars will fix this.

I have read else where the smell won't go and something has been done wrong in the growing phase.. really hope this isn't the case as they did not smell like that on harvest

The smell of freshly cut grass/hay is perfectly normal after harvest. Is goes away during the drying/curing process as long as the processed isnt rushed. I made that mistake my first grow, and to a lesser extent, during my second grow too lol. Most growers seem to have their own way of curing that suites them. For me personaly, I found that hanging them for a period of 5-7 days and then jaring them to cure. Once jarred I burp them on occasion at the bigining and then burp them less and less as the days and weeks pass by. Usually the smell of wet cut grass begins to go away after a couple/few weeks depending of course on temps, strain and size/age of plants. In my experience, all the mistakes I made in the curing process were because I didnt dry them enough before curing and because of that they never seemed to get that nice smell/taste. But I eventualy learned the hardway lol. As I say, lots of people have their own methods of drying/curing, but the most important thing in my limited experience is not to rush it.

Thanks that thread is helpful. To be honest it really doesn't matter how it tastes and smell as its being made into oil. I just wanted to have some dank for myself.

I think I am going to jar the widow buds tomorrow, that would mean it has been drying for 4 days. They are starting to get really sticky now. I may have jarred the popcorn buds to early as they seem to be sticking to each other, but I got a feeling if I leave them out one more night they will go crispy by morning so I have just left the lid on and when I get back home later I will see how they look then!

Next Widow plant to be harvested tomorrow I think

great looking plants. hope you don't mind but I put one in the bom/nom.

Day 69 Part 1:

Today I harvested the plant Elsamurai nominated - I did something different today, I just cut the main colas and left the bottom half and put it back in the tent. The other buds look like they have the potential to grow big.

So firstly an update from the drying/curing from the first 2 that were harvested. I have now jarred both (I am drying on a drying rack so they seem to be drying quickly), So what I have done is jarred them maybe a day early and I am closely monitoring the jars - so far no condensation which is good. I am moving the buds around the jars 2-3 times a day at the moment. I have ordered boveda 62% packs which should come today.

I also weighed the widow and Amnesia today, they haven't lost much weight over the last day or so (Around 10-20g each):

Widow - 120g
Amnesia - 141g

I would imagine they have a bit more drying but they are dry on the outside. Smell has been improving as well, if I squeeze a bud I can smell what hopefully it will be in a week or so. I tried some scissor hash and it blew my mind the taste was incredible so I have a feeling this will turn out good with the cure

So here are the pictures of the weigh in and them jarred back up after. This is the first two plants.

I will do a separate post for todays harvest.
