New Grower Equatorial 2.0

This round is all from 2 per pack freebie seeds, except for Purple Mazar, which I bought a 3 per pack.

Just dropped the last seed of Kush and Sour Hound. If it still does not germ, I'm gonna declare that its the seed, not me!

I went back to get the seeds I planted in soil 4 days ago but could not find the seeds. So....idk.

Hope to get all my pots with live plants soon! Wish me luck!

New beans showed tail in about 24 hours in water. I did NOTHING different. Same glass, tap water, H2O2, a little wood vinegar to PH and waited.

Skipped paper towel and sent them straight to soil since tail has shown, albeit just a little.

Now, please let them pop up!

Update:

Day 9 for Diesel and Lemon

The learning curve does not stop. If you see light stress signs on Diesel, you are spot on! I noticed this not long after I lowered the lights to 15 inches and dimmed to 155W. I also read in another forum that even 304 boards should not exceed 30% brightness for seedlings. I was running at over 40%. Despite all these info, I STILL felt that I could acclimate them to the power I was giving them. Obviously, I was wrong. After seeing light stress in different extent on all 3 plants, I knew I had to dim further or risk seriously stunting them.

24 hours ago, I dimmed further to about 120W and they look better now. Lemon pretty much made a full recovery. Diesel took it the worse but still looks better now. Her growth is also pretty impressive despite the wounds. Makes me wonder if I limited the potential of a great plant? Would be a great sin imo....lol

Purple looks great now. You can still see some minor light stress signs on her leaves but she should be back to normal soon.

Sour hound popped beautifully. No signs of shell. Love it when they pop this way.

Hoping Kush will pop normally too! My heart can't take another miscarriage!

I'm gonna call Day 1 for both Kush and Sour Hound starting tomorrow. Its almost end of day and Kush is still in shell. So will just celebrate their birthday tomorrow at the same time.

I used seedling soil which is mostly sphagnum peat moss and I added perlite + biochar + worm poop. I then topped about an inch of the pot but digged a hole in the middle to fill in more of it. I did the same last grow but only filled the middle. The reason I mentioned this is for anyone reading this to NOT do what I did. The peat moss causes algae growth too easily. Filling the middle to plant seedling is ok but don't cover whole surface.

Not a biggie though if you did. Just scrape them off and they will dry/die off. Cos you won't need to keep them that moist after seedling stage. Covering top soil with perlite will likely solve the problem too.

First group shot with all pots beaned!

You can't really acclimate a plant to more intense light.
It's the equivalent of asking a nice readhead to go stand in the midday sun at the equator while saying 'it's OK. you will only get a little bit of sunburn and then you will get used to it'
That alabaster skin is gonna be a big ball of pus, scabs and blisters.
Getting a plant used to more intense light would take generations, while increasing by small increments so that natural selection can work it's magic.

Believe me, I've done enough reading to understand the logic of what you're saying. I also mentioned that another grower in another forum who only uses 304 boards (I'm using 800 boards), says to not exceed 30% (I went up to 50%) during seedling stage. Despite all these info, I was still being stubborn I guess. Wanted to see what I can get away with.

I am liking my mental state for this grow. No worries about supplies. Not fussing over anything minor. I would have freaked if my beans did not germ or if i saw my seedling leaves all crumpled out, last grow!

@Boradan Thank you so much for the heads up though! Don't stop looking out for ol EQ! Let me also take this opportunity to thank you for always dropping in and for the likes given! I really appreciate it!

I get what you are saying about 'mental state'
One of my current ladies is throwing hissy fits due to N Tox. I can't really lower the Mega Crop any more or the other plants would probably suffer.
Last grow, I would have freaked out. This grow I am 'meh... I will just use it for hash/edibles'
Although it does help that I have a monster Northern lights growing - that will help ease the pain ;)

What is up @Equatorial? I haven't been around for a few weeks.(work) I like the new setup. Looks real nice brother. Good luck on your new grow. Don't sweat it man. You have a really good grasp on everything; especially for you to be relatively new to growing. It is obvious that you are serious about this craft. You also have good instincts. You will continue to make some mistakes, but they will become fewer and less serious as you go. This one (light stress) wasn't so bad as mistakes go, and you caught it soon enough. You are getting there fast brother, just keep it up.

As far as the seed shell, @islandgrower is right. It does need to stay moist. Just mist it a couple times a day. I have lost seedlings waiting for the shell to come off naturally. I don't even wait anymore. If it is above the soil an inch or so and looks like it just can't shed it, I mist it and get a toothpick and gently lift the shell little by little, until it comes off. If the membrane is left behind, it will keep the leaves stuck together. In that case I just do the same, but if you put the toothpick just between the gap in the leaves and GENTLY push toward the end, they come off pretty easy. You have to kind of hold/anchor one side of the seed so as not to pull the seedling from the medium. I lost a couple like that in the beginning, but none since....and I am talking decades of doing this. I have lost a plant here or there, but not because of removing the shell. If you are not comfortable with it, just try it with a few that are expendable. I will be checking in again soon. Good growing to you brother. :d5:

Thank you @islandgrower and @NateNobody

Unfortunately, I'm quite sure I got a bad batch of Auto Kush seeds and to a lesser extent, Sour Hound too. Most likely just very old seeds, that'll require a gamble with diminishing odds, with time.

Sour Hound is now a stable and normal looking seedling but it took lots of effort. She did not look like she was gonna make it when one of the cotyledon stayed hard and refuse to open up. The one that opened up drooped way down, pulling the whole seedling down, looking like she was gonna die. It took A LOT of misting and manipulating of the cotyledon, to achieve something that would normally happen naturally. Also, she took about double the time for her to reach this level of growth compared to the rest. BUT, she has a good thick stem....so lets see

Auto Kush does not look like she will make it. I do not even have the chance to pry off the shell. She just stopped growing after coming up the soil. Not even 1mm above ground. Gonna give her a little more time for a miracle. If she dies, will drop an Amnesia Haze, which is my fav smoke so far.

It probably looks ok in the pic but it has stayed this way the past 24 hours or so. This, and the last bean that did not germ, kinda convinced me that this Freebie pack I got was a very old batch. A little pissed but we'll see how I manage transition to flowering with plants about 10 days apart.

The 3 original girls are doing very well. Still see some light stress at 120W. Will decide by end of day if i should dim back by another 10W.
