Sending for the sake of your stubborn little non-poppers. They just need a little extra encouragement.

When I germ, I usually just toss the seed in the baggie and lay the moist paper towel over the seed like a blanket, then I leave the baggie completely open and just fold the zipper end under instead. So it's baggie layer, seed, wet towel. This way, when the tap root tries to grow downward, it grows along the plastic instead of potentially into the paper towel. I worry a little less about damaging the little gal when it's time to plant. I get that it doesn't really help if they won't pop for ya at all. Just some food for thought.

Thanks for the encouragement and vibes. I’m actually taking it quite easy this grow. Played by ear mostly last grow with zero notes except for the grow journal. Taking it a step further this round. I actually already forgotten when I planted the 2 rogue seeds. I mean, I kinda remember the day cos I posted about it but can’t remember if it was morn, afternoon or nite...LOL

Did not even mark the spot I planted them seeds in...Still choosing to remain positive!

Welcome to my new grow, my dear AFNers! I owe my first grow to ALL of you, whether or not you came by my grow, cos I read yours!

Will be getting the potting soil and perlite I need tomorrow and start mixing up soil. Then, will start soaking seeds.

Soil for this round will be mostly the same as last grow but with a little more addition:

40% Potting Soil. No nutes.
20% Worm poop
20% Perlite
10% Biochar - Local formula
10% Neem Cake + some dry fert mix I used last round + Vaped grinded buds from last grow (all 6 plants) + a little Garden Lime + a good layer of pumice stones on bottom

Basically, the only difference is reducing potting soil and adding Biochar, garden lime and vaped buds.

I wanted to do 4 plants max but after seeing my new lights in action, I'm going with 5. Basically, after this round, I would have grown out all the strains I bought, including the dual seed freebie packs. I have more than enough lights so if i really run out of space, will just put a plant under a pair of COBs somewhere.

Added more security, protection and stealth features just cos...

They will be 1 plant x 5 strains= 5 plants. Last grow, was 2 plants x 3 strains = 6 plants. All in 5 gallon fabric pots, which I poured out all the old soil BUT I did not wash them. Is that ok?

Lighting will be predominantly 2 x 800 diodes Quantum Board. One board in 3000K (Flower) and another at 4000K (Veg). Each board can be powered from 14W to 350W.

The 800 board for veg should be WAY more than enough and probably won't even come close to being driven to max.

In flower, I have purchased 2 x 26W UVB 10.0 reptile CFL bulb with reflectors and dimmer. All for around $30. Most likely start them a few hours a day and slowly increase. Am gonna start the UVBs once I see the slightest hint of frost or a little before that? Suggestions anyone?

Besides that, I still have the choice of breaking out my COBs as side/ angled lighting. I have 3 pairs of 3500K COBs and another pair of Full Spectrum blurples. Not sure if they will be needed or how best to utilize them yet, but I really like the idea of dimming the QBs just enough to also use COBs on them.

Nutes will be all Greenleaf Nutrients products. Megacrop with Sweet Candy during Seedling to Veg. Megacrop with Mother Monarch Bloom and Sweet Candy during early flower. And Megacrop with Red Line and Sweet Candy from late flower till finish!

Did not flush last round and do not plan to this round.

I hope more of you can join me on this grow and help me achieve an even better harvest than last grow.

Ohh...the strains (All Autos) are:
1 x Purple Mazar from Flash Seeds (Not optimistic due to my climate. At least not expecting any purple but fingers crossed)

1 x Auto Kush by Seedsman (@Avalanche Blanche *wink*)

1 x Diesel Auto by RQS

1 x Auto Lemon by Seedsman

1 x Sour Hound Auto by Mephisto

Needless to say, I might be getting in over my head with 5 strains this grow. Nutrient dosage and reading plant reaction will be crucial. Not sure if I have it in me?

As for training, lets just take it one step at a time. Will update more if I think of anything else. Hope I get 100% germ rate this time too!

When you say you don't flush... Do you mean you don't give plain water instead of nutes? Or giving the plant 3 x it's container size? Just curious because there's a huge difference...

The AVB is just a ritual I wanna start from now on. I explained this in my last journal. I hope it does some good as i don't see why not? My AVB is mixed with dark brown and very dark brown with some black so not really any second hand value left even for edibles. I combined AVBs from all 6 plants from my last grow/first grow and easily have a litre of it atm. The plan is to snowball AVBs from all plants from all grows. Each time i start a grow, it'll have the essence, spirit, chi etc watever else u call it, from all previous grows. Like i said, just a stupid ritual i wanna make mine.

About the little box that pops up and autocompletes, it don't work with tapatalk. Only on browser.

I saw your note on flushing, I havent flushed my last couple of runs, for whatever reason, my buds have smoked as smooth as any, smoother than most.
I have been using Roots Organics ROGF and Coco Coir for soil medium. I also think the Mega Crop is part of keeping it smooth as well.

Last two weeks before chop I gave mine plain water.. two weeks before that I gave them half the base nutes I was giving them and doubled my bloom booster dose (which is Bud Explosion) and my results were outstanding.. and burn pure white Ash.

After 24 hour soak and 18 hours of paper towel, only Diesel and Lemon showed tail. Planted them few hours ago. I soaked the other 3 seeds again for 1-2 hours and then put them on new paper towels. Am hopeful that they will sprout overnight. The germ process is already taking longer than last grow. I think it may be a sign of tougher things to come....

Put all 5 pots under my new 4000K QB boards. But only two pots has seeds in them atm. Dimmed lights to only 155W out of a maximum of 350W. Placed 2ft above soil. Like I said before, I don't expect to come close to max Wattage for Vegging. After seeing this light in action, I'm absolutely certain. The light spread is so even. Visually, feels much softer and comfortable compared to my COBs. I can definitely see myself growing more plants watt for watt, using QBs compared to COBs.

We’ve got a peeker from Diesel and that’s about all the good news there is.

Lemon has not popped out. The other 3 seeds still have not showed any tail. My first encounter with germination issues. Last round went perfect. Gonna continue paper toweling them and pray for the best. I hear some wait up to 7 days. Any ideas?

The same method produced 100% germ rate with 6 seeds last round. And I also got 2 out of 5 that sprouted this round. I’m leaning towards feeling that it’s a seed issue more than technique?

Sorry for the blurry Diesel shot. They are around half a day apart.

Now for the bad news. After 5 days of attempted germination, Auto Kush and Sour Hound showed nothing. I’m extremely disappointed, especially with the Mephisto Sour Hound, as Mephisto genetics has a stellar rep around here.

Not being one to give up easily, I planted them anyways and will give up to a week, before germing new beans. I choose to remain optimistic.

Lights are amazing and seedlings seem to love it. Raised brightness to around 180W as I feel they can take it. Height is 60cm or 24 inches and gonna let them slowly work their way up before I do any adjustments.

Next time do yourself a favor... Prewater your medium a bit just enough to have it moist all over but not soaked. This is because when you plant a seed directly in (which is what I'm leading up too) you want the Taproot to go down in search of water (moisture) and the cotyledons up towards the light. So once you prewater your container or what have you... Dig a little plug with your finger (to about the first knuckle on the tip of your finger) drop the seed right in the hole, cover up and pack down lightly. But make sure it's covered well and good. Then gently water it just enough to make the seed and area above and around it moist. Lower your lights fairly close and place the pots under them. Water once a day (once in 24 hours) just a bit like you did when you planted. You want to keep it just wet enough to be warm and moist. Within 3 days you will have seedlings. I guarantee it!! There have not been many seeds that haven't germed for me over the years doing that method and it's the least stressful to your Taproot. Autos are unforgiving. You want the best and least stressful start as possible. Try it on one seed at least and humor me lol I promise you it's so much better than using a Paper Towel...

They are all looking fantastic by the way! Healthy green!

I meant I feed till chop day. No plain water. Just as usual.

As for your recommendation, I am doing exactly that right now. You pretty much described my last 24 hours or so. Thank you so much for chiming in. I was feeling positive before but am feeling more assured that I did the right thing.

I fed all 6 plants till I chopped them last round. I also vape the buds exclusively. Don’t even have a bong. After vaping for a couple weeks, I started to hate the aftertaste of burning buds. Nothing to do with curing or flushing. It’s the combustion. Like a non smoker having a cigarette. They taste GREAT when vaped though, and that’s why I’m not considering plain water before chop. Hope it makes sense

Still nothing after 2 days in soil. I read the tip too but don’t expect to wait for weeks. Already germed them a couple days with soaking and paper towels. Tomorrow should be 3 days in soil and almost a week in total. A day or two after that and it will be time to count my losses and start new beans.

Sucks that it has to be Auto Kush and Sour Hound. One was your girl last round and another is my only Mephisto bean (have one more).

STILL choosing to be optimistic bout it, although it’s looking grim.

I would put in soil in a cup or small pot, if it sprouts stick it in a pot. When you are ready to give up that is.

Update Day 5 for Lemon and Diesel. Day 3 for Purple Mazar

First off, a little learning curve with the lights. Turns out, 2 feet above pots at 185W will cause massive stretching. I noticed it 2 days back but decided to leave them alone. This was a big mistake. Diesel and Lemon both fell face down and when I got to them, leaves were still touching soil but has faced upwards. Put a stick and twisty tie to secure them. Only used twisty on Purple, as she is still very small.

Reduced light distance to about 15 inches and dimmed down to the original 155W. So far so good.

I already see difference with soil this time round. It dries much faster, meaning I can feed more, or at least try.

Fed them today, as soil has been starting to get bone dry. Fed with around 0.45g per litre of MC and 0.25g per litre of SC. PH was pretty much perfect at around 6.4. More than 12 hours have passed and looks really good.

Kush and Sour Hound has yet to show anything, being in soil for almost 4 days now. Gonna germ new beans tomorrow if still see no signs of soil breaking. Oh..how my heart aches!
