Harvest & Curing Drying in a brown bag

Oh really? And here I am thinking it was good-ish for smoking straight outta the bag lol. Seems like I need to read the thread again..

I noticed it with the brown bag method that after they feel totally dry from the outside, if you pack them in glass jars there is still some moisture in the core that then gets released to the surface. In my experience, when that happened it was ok to just let them dry another day and all was good. I'd say best to use Boveda 62 with jars after the bag drying. I really like that combo, locks in the flavours and keeps them really nice.

Hey all If I'm drying in thick brown paper bags in a cardboard box and my humidity in room is 70% should I be worried about mold or rot? All meds were trimmed wet and broken down into small and medium sized nugs

Hey mathias,Ive never dried at 70 %.
I think I would run a fan to circulate the air, it should help.
I would say not to blow directly on the bags but maybe over the top of them.
Not a big fan, just one to have the air moving.
Wait 3 days then probably rearrange them for another couple days till they just start feeling crisp.
Then jar and check humidity after a couple hours and see where you at.
when I first jar, theyre about 70 so I air them out a bit daily till I hit the 65 mark.
Good luck.
hopefully someone can answer about that high humidity.

Thanks oldcoot I was thinking about fan as well. I may jus try to relocate to diff room. Idk y but for some reason my humidity in house is super high lately. First time drying in bags but I'm already liking it more than hanging. I jus want it to go smooth

I hear you. I'm in jars now, took me 6 days in my bags this time and I dumped them out on day 3 or 4,all sticking together, ha.
last 2 days in jars but my jar sized buds are still a little high so daily I air them for about an hour till I get her down to 65, smaller buds are 66/ 65 now. that was at 50 % humidity.
Got 9 jars full out of this one, it was a little crowded in my bags, I only had 14 and 3 more with popcorn and sugar trim.
yeah I think its much better than air drying but my reason is stealth and smell and length of time.
Good luck

9 jars damn son nice work. I found a better spot for mine and I may add small fan for air circulation. Thanks for replies

Drying in brown bag is something fantastic! I shake bag whit stuff inside 4-5 times per day and bud after drying looks dense! ;)

ok got the point about the paper bag, but no one talks about (wet of dry) trimming after or before the bags!? :D (sorry if i missed a post) :peace:

do you guys first trim the buds or just brake down to small buds, bag 'em and trim before jars? if wet trimming is it heavy trimming or just big leaves and sugar leaves before jaring?
i usualy hang dry the branches then after 5-6 days cut to smaller buds trimm and for another 2-3 days in brown bag and then in the jar.(days depend on enviroment)
but this time i have to be really oddorless so i was thinking about fully drying in bags and skip the hanging proces
i dont like wet trimming because it gives that hay smell and taste and if the buds are big it can cause mold.

peace out guys ;)

I always chop, complete trim and in bags.
By the way you will still get some smell but nothing like hanging.
And remember the idea is to keep the bags closed,i wouldn't and don't open my bags at all till day 4, unless I think its to humid, warm, etc.
yeah you can shake things around but I find they clump together the first 3 days, imo.

The rule of thumb is to trim and break down the colas into nugs (nothing bigger than a golf ball) before anything goes into brown paper bags. When I did it, I let things hang dry for 24 hours before I trimmed and broke down the buds and it worked just fine.
