Grow Mediums Does anyone use soil in their AutoPots?

Hello!!

I am currently using coco, but was really thinking about using the Mephisto Amendment and soil for my next grow. Anyone have luck with soil in the auto-pots? Do you need to mix the soil with a lot of perlite, or even coco?.....would love to know your results.

I’m growing in soil right now, with a super soil amendment. I did add a little extra perlite, but the soil I used is 30% perlite already, so I didn’t add too much. It’s going great. I only need to give the plants water, but I put a net bag of llama poop in the reservoir so it’s a compost tea. Here’s my journal if you’d like to check it out: https://www.autoflower.org/threads/hey-ho-lets-grow-leds-autopots.66885/page-20#post-1983252

I add 1/3 coco to my soil. I've done organic in auto pots and I'm currently feeding the soil with Megacrop. I haven't changed the soil in my auto pots in almost 2 years.

This was in the no till soil, 4 th grow that soil, and feed Megacrop the last 8 weeks.

I’m currently using a soil mix that I make myself from 1/3 garden soil, 1/3 perlite,, and 1/3 compost mix of five different kinds of compost. It’s basically the same mix I use in my veggie garden outside. I have also used Biobizz Light soil mix with 1/3 perlite with excellent results. I think soil helps to better buffer the nutrients causing fewer lockouts and pH issues. @pop22 got me started on this after he mentioned using a soil/coco mix for the same reasons. In addition, he no longer dumps it out and starts new every time either. He just cuts the main stem down into the soil and plants a new seed and has done so for a few grows now.

You could even setup an organic super soil in your autopots and just add water to the reservoir.
Thank you hon! Yes, I am having a little issue with all the nutes in coco, and would love to just do a "nute free water only" grow next time. When using soil do you recommend putting clay balls in the bottom of the pot?....

I would love to check it out. thank you! Llama poop? That is the first I have heard that one! ~smile.
They say dont put anything organic in the res as it may clog the lines, do you find that at all?

Hi Pop!! wow, a picture is worth a thousand words. So you can mix coco and soil. awesome. I just want a simpler grow next time, and was just concerned about using soil. Your soil must be full of goodies!!

I’m a rule breaker! I did Golden Tree last grow and it didn’t clog the lines though it did take a minute or two to flush the lines of it completely when my grow was done. I may have just been lucky but I did dilute the Golden Tree quite a bit. I’m not worried about the llama poop because it’s in a net bag so any solid parts would have to be very small to leave the bag and probably won’t clog the lines. I suppose it’s possible that it would but that’s a risk I’m taking. I’m just a rebel I suppose. Lol.

I love it!....Is there a section in the autopot forum that deals with growing in soil? do you know? i searched but didnt see anything. I would LOVE to plant and just water. This old lady is tired of worrying about nutes. My first grow ever was an auto white widow planted in ocean forest and top watered by hand. got 4 oz off her. I had never even seen a cannabis plant before. would love to go back to being that simple

That’s why I chose super soil! Low maintenance. All the nutrients are in the soil. It’s easy. Just mix soil and super soil together in the bottom third of the pot and then the rest with just soil. All that’s required is plain water to grow. Biotabs work the same way but you just put a tab in the soil.

As far as forums, I did find some old posts about using soil in Autopots I think, maybe in the biotabs section. It’s basically the same process as any other medium in Autopots. Just make sure you have good drainage in the soil - perlite. Biotabs has specific instructions for using their product in soil in Autopots.

I messaged the super soil people and they said they’d had plenty of Autoflower growers who’ve used their amendment successfully but they do make another amendment specifically for Autoflowers. They said the Autoflower amendment is quicker release but both amendments will work for autos. I bought the regular because it’s available in a larger amount for less money.

Thank you for all the info hon. super soil or the Mephisto amendment was the way I was thinking for next time. Do you put any stones or clay balls in the bottom of your pot when using soil?....
