Dinafem Dinafem Quick Kush & Quick Critical

Some bad news I hate to report, my battle gal turned hermie and I had to chop her. That was a very sad evening as she was doing fantastic.

I had a chat with some folks on HOTT trying to pinpoint the issue, could be I was too heavy handed with her. I’m gonna pop the rest of the Quick Kush seeds soon and try again. In the meantime Critical is doing great! The empty space now has another Quick Critical that is in an AutoPot, I’ll get some pics of her up.

I also have four of her in my bubbler I just converted to aeroponics. I plan to flip these soon and see what they do in this set up.

Critical is getting frosty :woohoo1:

Wow she’s a beauty! So sorry about your hermie! By heavy handed, do you mean over feeding? Or HST?

So glad AFN is back!

I'm sorry for your loss Rivetgrrl. I know your pain. It's just a minor set back for a major come back. How was she smelling before her sex change? Did nanners full take over?

The critical looks great, and so do those clones!

That's strange about the herm, the plant looked really healthy.

I've not grown enough plants to have that happen yet but I always imagined the plant would look stressed out somehow and that plant looked perfect... :/

Thank you, I was so disheartened to see the nanners. Think it was the overtraining, and bad VPD, some strains don't like to be manipulated too much. I am getting the environment more dialed in, but it is very tricky as the room is very hard to keep at anything steady.

Thank you, she was starting to get her smell on, but that Critical is heavy for that! Even in veg the leaves were so spicy when I defoliated. I tried to pinch off the nanners but ya there were a lot and some pollen got loose so I have a few seeds to remove from the Critical.

Thank you, she was doing great. I topped her, LST'ed, heavy defoliation (not at the same time) and the environment was way too dry. Who knows ultimately, plants can do odd things. I have seeds left so I will run them again as I loved the speed and growth. But other than a topping and minor defoliation I'll leave them alone. Same thing happened to a healthy Rare Dankness Moonshine Haze so she didn't like the heavy hand either maybe?

That is bad news and I must say a massive sorry about this, as you know we do stress test our strains prior to release and I'm not seeing reports of Quick Kush hermis but everytime I'm told about 1 I do report it to our breed team

I'm really sorry about this mate, what have temps been like it you don't mind me asking?

On a more positive note the Quick Critical looks like fire and getting closer to harvest each update :pass:

All the best :bong:

Mark..

Hey Mark, thanks for dropping by! Thanks for the apology too tho not necessary, I know genetics going hermie are a concern to the breeder and in no way am I saying that is the issue. But I had to let you know because you guys take this seriously and also the kush is gone from my report now. I also have not seen anything about Dinafem having hermie issues in general. I have had a run of bad luck with some other hermies too, which makes me think it is the environment or I need to not do so much HST.

My environmental issues were too dry, one tent was 30% humidity and about 28C. This particular tent was 40-50% so I added a humidifier to keep it closer to a steady 50% lights on. Right now we are experiencing a torrent of rain, so no humidifiers last couple days. My temps are 21C-28C (70-82F) (light off/on) and humidity is 52%-70%, normally lower. I'm paying more attention to VPD but damn, this room is a handful. Too cold in the winter, too warm in the summer. And either too humid or too dry, so I have a dehumidifier and a couple humidifiers. I will be picking up some Inkbirds or similar to automate better down the road, I miss my basement grow it was steady!!

And Critical is great! I want to switch that mini-aero unit to flower soon just to do a practice run. I also have two Critical's left in the TurboKlone I want to put one into hydro solo cup and one into an "AutoPot" set-up solo cup as practice for the solo cup battle. I need small airstones is all.

:greenthumb: :cooldance: :dancer:...looking fine and dandy my friend! :d5:.... very nice work on the clones too.... QC+ is nugging up well!
Alas for the QK, I missed most of that at HOTT it seems,... I'm thinking a bit of a perfect storm of factors behind it, so all duly noted I'm sure.... VPD isn't "dogma", there's plenty of wiggle room, but if you're in the red zones, it's an issue...

I'm thinking you should try the Purple Afghani Kush next time, a shorter more rounded structure, may not need as much tie-work, plus she's well made for lower RH% I believe..? Pretty fast too,,...:eyebrows:
Speaking of clones, it'll be topping time soon for my OD girls, Lilly is almost there,.. (oooo, she's another I'd love to see run indoors, very fast blooming, but her build is yet to be seen,... she has sexed already I saw today, at only 5 weeks!)... anyway, I have to get with a mate to do this right, and get him the cuts in good shape and fast! I'd hate to see prime tops get tossed- :nono:

Thank you :toke: I looked up the PAK and she looks very nice, my list of strains is unattainable in my lifetime.. Sigh...

My VPD was in the red, and I never really put it together that it could have that big of an impact on the grow? Looks like it can tho.

I gotta check up on your thread, I'm still doing catch up.

All caught up! Sorry again to read about the Hermie... That always stings. This is me when that happens...

Now @Waira can correct me if I'm wrong but regarding the "praying leaves" "pointing up leaves"... I always contributed that to transpiration rate being optimal or at 100% transpiration rate. Over watered or bone dry they are completely droopy (zero transpirtation). So do they do the opposite when they are in the prime zone?

Food for thought :coffee:

Looking fantastic by the way!!

There is a thread about that here https://www.autoflower.org/threads/...-to-light-a-discussion-about-leaf-lift.57622/ some good info in there, I myself am unsure but I always attributed it to the correct environment regarding lights etc.

Thank you, the Critical gets fatter every day. I'll take some new pics tonight. And here is my Dinafem Ocean Grown Cookies, I finally got her into a tent to flower. Just moved her so she should be perked up when she wakes up today.
