If you are able to run tight VPD conditions in your tent the plants will be transpiring at the maximum rate. This in turn will pull more nutrients into the plant over a given time. So yes you can run lower PPMs and still the plant will get what it needs in volume.I get nute burn at around 1.0 EC in DWC while following VPD chart. (Does VPD need less fertilizer?)
Some strains can't even take that.
I've got an Anesia Purple Domina that can't take EC=0.8 at the 5 week mark.
Its equal age tentmate is thriving on that strength.
Not only must I use less fertilizer, but then it must often be reduced after mid-flower to avoid leaf crud.
For me, less fertilizer leads to happier, healthier plants.
The problem I have with this is it is very difficult for many to run VPD accurately. I cannot be consistent in my system. I have settled for keeping RH >40%<60% and this I can do.
