Dialing In MEGA CROP for Auto's

Wow holy shit, i had no clue that it was the roots that changed the pH of the media -- i presumed it was because of the degradation of the nutrients that are fed into the media. That is REALLY fucking cool that you witnessed the plant itself change the pH so drastically based on the needs it has. Now im beginning to understand why other growers suggest you allow for the pH in your fertigation to vary a little (within the appropriate range.. perhaps between 5.9-6.2). In coco/hydroponics, are the microbes still mainly in charge of breaking down nutrients and bringing them to the roots, or do the roots rely solely on direct availability? This is so interesting -- i think you've started me down a very deep rabbit hole.
It is indeed a very deep hole . Whether or not you have microbes is up to you the farmer. You can grow sterile - no microbes in fact you kill them regularly to keep it sterile. I did not have good luck with this so I go the other way and add microbes (Mykos) to my Rock Wool grows. I still feed mostly hydroponic style nutrients but I do add Cane molasses the last two weeks to feed the microbes when the plants stop producing carbohydrates for the roots.

You do not need to be strict with coco and a range from 6.0 to 6.4 is good because there is some buffering going on. In DWC it is better to try to keep a steady 5.8. The thing is it is going to roam all over the place. Aeration cause changes and the roots cause changes. It can get out of control very quickly.

I agree, and that's why I run soil. I've tried about everything and my goal has been simplicity and as trouble free as possible. And it has been pretty smooth sailing! i think I might even ( just jinxed myself...lol ) have the spidermite problem licked!
@pop22 The easiest growing I have ever done was in good Living Organic Soil - the stuff from my outdoor garden soil that I have been ammending for almost 20 years now. All I had to add was water. I had two problems with that. The garden where I live now is too small to donate soil and both gardens suffered by removing and returning the soil after I used it. It takes a couple of years for the used soil to be tip top again. The second major problem is my bad back. I cannot lift that much weight to move a 3 gallon pot of soil. Pumps do all of the heavy lifting now.

You shouldn't even say their name :yoinks:.

Okay i think this makes sense! I was getting contradictory info on the cocoforcannabis tutorial, where he gives very specific pH levels for each stage of the plant's life. But your approach is much simpler, i like it. If i start at 6.0ph, can i just let it vary between 5.8-6.2 and be good?
Varying between 5.7 and 6.2 is actually a good thing.
The mineral absorption is directly tied to ph.
We're talking about a 0.5 difference ( we're now splitting hairs haha...)
But yes, that would be fine...
Like you,..and coming from peat grows...
I followed coco4cannabis like Gods word...
I failed bad...
Then I read how others before me did it. ..
Both coco....but especially...MC..
This is where the magic happened...
MC has 3 versions....surprise
You're probably like most working with the second edition...which is very good.
It is short on magnesium.
Relax reading this!!!
MC...is an excellent product...
Just add 1 teaspoon per gallon of magnesium...then add your MC...
And as far as I'm concerned...there us no better product on the market that comes close to this.
Yes'
I know you're pissed about the complicated this and that about MC.
(Dude)...now you know ..
And if you share this secret, we're gonna have to kill you...
( just joking of course)...
MC is like tuning a Mustang vs. The Ferrari...
It can cost a few bucks...or f'××..it...pay a 1/4 million ...and drive...
MC...is like a tuning exercise.
Once you get it down pat...
Is ..unbeatable...bar none...

You will also take note...
In our MC conversations ..
Nobody....challenges...our success rate...

Hhm?..
Wonder why...?

hahahah i swear fealty to you and the League of MC Growers, that i shall never share these secrets. Thank you for letting me in. Yeah ive been reading through other growers MC-only journals today and seeing that everything you're saying is pretty much right on the money. Ive got the third version (the one that just came out) and im so stoked that i bought a big ol bag of it -- it should last me for the foreseeable future!

I understand! I like organic also, I just felt like a change. I'm getting ready to set up one tent for organic again. Thinking about one, potentially large auto in a 30 gallon growbag.

Hey guys, just wanna say that I’ve been thoroughly enjoying following the conversation. Interesting stuff for sure!
I too am trying to uncover the secrets to the art that is growing with peat and MC.

Kudos to you bro..
What I've come to appreciate about the folks @Greenleaf Nutrients is that they listen.
Is their product perfect...( no and never will be)...BECAUSE....there will always be a margin of tuning involved.
Plants are organic...and not a perfect science.
I bought a 20 lbs bag 3 months ago on Ebay.
Is it crap...heck no....just needs tuning.
And this is where we need to focus..
The product gets better because GN..want market share... Its a pride and sales thing...
Go for it...
We're all winners in the end...

I've never used a soil probe. And that's why I run my PH at 6.4. Most i know people who run nutes in soil at 6.0 to 6.2. And everyone of them run into problems. Now maybe I've just been lucky, but since I started this protocol about 2 years ago, I've not had a rootzone problem. In most pots I haven't changed the soil in that long either. I keep them moist and the roots rot in a couple weeks, then i just pull out the stump and replant in the hole.
I just got my soil probe today. What does it mean if it reads ph 5.5 in coco loco? I ph my water/nutrients at 6.3.
