The fiasco, and that is not my word, it was used by an epidemiological expert during testimony to the US congress committee working on this, is that, whatever the underlying cause, the US has blown a couple weeks of testing, letting this virus expand with negligible monitoring, and potentially letting it get out of control. Time will tell, but it is quite possible that this will result in the pandemic being far worse in the US than it would have been if testing had been done early.

I do not know anything about the details regarding the early test kits refused by CDC, but I believe that by using the standard WHO kits, South Korea very quickly brought their outbreak under control. Had the US used the kits, far more tests could have been done earlier, and through the combination of testing and contact tracing, a lid might have been put on this thing. As it now stands, it may prove too late for testing and contact tracing to work - the number of contacts involved very rapidly becomes impossible to process once an outbreak gets going.

Anyway, it will soon be apparent if this outbreak can be controlled in the US. I sincerely hope to have my expectations confirmed as pessimistic.

You are correct, he did say that. His name is Dr Anthony Fauci, an old colleague of my sisters.

But unless you watched the hearing (it was just a hearing as Congress is thankfully not working on this... hell they can't even get a pothole filled in a road) anyway... unless you watched the entire hearing you would not have heard his next statement which was that it was due to antiquated beurocracy and red tape. And that the system was not designed to do what they needed to do as fast as they needed it done (Paraphrasing a bit there) and now those potential roadblocks have been removed by a stroke of a pen.

That last part of his answer was cut for the clip that was shown on our wonderful news services... accidentally I'm sure... and that clip and the stories that were written immediately after are why they keep putting out more stories along those same lines... in fact I'm sure there are probably a dozen or two that have been put out this week alone stating something similar.

Bottom line is not a single person who had a doctor order a test here was unable to get a test.

Yup... South Korea has done everything right, they wisely prepared after they were hit hard back in 2000.

South Korea made their own tests using a WHO protocol based on the German test.

WHO has 7 protocols available on corona, including 1 based on the US test.

The only major problem with US testing was that the reagent was contaminated in some of the first 160K tests. If I remember right they used about 2K of that batch and scrapped the rest.

Could have been contaminated in transit, at point of use, or at the mfg. In the scheme of things though that first batch affected nothing and no one went untested.. it did nothing but give talking heads (news people) something new to bitch about.

As I already posted the numbers are going to make people shit in about 3 weeks... but they are already freaking about toilet paper so...

400 million people... yes it is logical the numbers are going to be big once the automated testing results are the majority of the data coming in.

People here do not understand why they need a Dr to request the test before they can get one.... everybody wants everything right now... there is a reason for that though.

Early testing before certain symptoms show will give false negatives with this version of corona, the last version of corona, and with SARS.

Then you have infected people who were just told they were not infected and they go out and spread it all the more.

Just an FYI: I am privy to the modeling the CDC is using thanks to several relatives, and the working model for worst case scenario on this in the US is 200 million infected, 2 million dead.

Also because of those models I do not believe any of the numbers China has supplied.

Until it catches and passes the regular yearly flu death toll I'm not all that concerned about it even though I have about 8 or 9 of the markers for what they consider dangerous underlying conditions.

But then again I have lived my whole life knowing a bee can kill me if I'm stung.

Well its official, NYS HAS ORDERED ALL NON ESSENTIAL WORKERS TO STAY HOME UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE... looks like im not surveying for a while... gonna take the advice of someone on this thread and grow some!!!

not being strange or anything but I just see like 20 lights in sky for last half n hour then police heli going round closest 1 then they all disapered in a second. they wernt planes choppers or drones look out your windows people
