My wife and I are self isolating for over 2 weeks now. Of course we are concerned about getting infected but personally it would be terrible to be responsible for the infection and death of a family member or friend or anyone for that matter because I failed to heed the warnings.
We on lock down now I took kids out of school 2 weeks ago b4 they said to. Lots of my mates are builders but are still going to work I think they are mad, if we want to beat this we should stay in. 3 months inside wont kill you but corona could.

I'm essential service in so still going to work, but I do promise when this is all said and done I will spend money frivolously and with out regard to any social norms. I will party party and party some more like it's my birthday for at least two months. Then I will travel to europe and hit up Mossy for some smoke and HE and I will drink and smoke and whore are way around europe until they kick me out or make me Chancellor King of the E.U.

It's really scary
Anyone who is not at least somewhat frightened by this pandemic doesn't, or doesn't want to, understand what is going on. The one bit of "good" news in this mess is that the risk to a person's personal health can be greatly reduced by that person's behaviour. None of us is helpless in the face of this thing.

The same is true for the collective risk to our communities - collective behaviour can reduce societal risk. Sadly, sufficient compliance with distancing and stay home rules seems difficult or impossible to achieve without serious enforcement effort, which most democracies are understandably reluctant or logistically unable to impose.

Please understand peeps, this is a dangerous virus, even to younger individuals. Please listen to and comply with the distancing measures announced for your community - those measures are likely to be the last possible attempt to avoid horrific overload at hospitals. Keep in mind that it will not be just old farts infected by Covid-19 that may be unable to obtain needed help, gross overload at hospitals will also affect delivery of medical assistance to anyone needing emergency hospital services for any reason, and could do so for months. Finally, please spare a thought for the poor medical staff who will be immersed for weeks in the hospital chaos that will ensue if the trajectory of this outbreak is not changed.

Stay safe peeps.

two things. 1 the CDC said today Covid 19 can last on surfaces for up to 17 days.:yoinks:that means you can go to the store and touch a package hat someone had handled two weeks ago and get infected.
2 being afraid or paranoid Is just smart thinking when someone OR something is out to get you !

and hit up Mossy for some smoke and HE and I will...

fyi, @Mossy has indeed been under the weather a bit lately, but as far as i'm aware, SHE hazn't gotten a sex change :yoinks: jus sayin...:smoking: ppp

With everyone holed up and hunkered down, I'll share a bit of wellness info from Health Canada
I'll paste the text below this link: COVID-19 mental well-being

March 20, 2020
From Mental Health Commission of Canada
In the midst of COVID-19, it is increasingly difficult to avoid the bleak headlines and bright-red news banners. Staying informed is, after all, one way many of us try to win back a semblance of control. But while it’s natural to seek information about this unfolding public health crisis, we must also take steps to protect our mental health.
With guidance from Dr. Keith Dobson, clinical psychologist and professor at the University of Calgary, the Mental Health Commission of Canada has compiled the following tips to help Canadians protect their mental health as they strive to safeguard their physical well-being and that of their loved ones.
1. Understand the fight-or-flight response
It’s normal to feel anxious in the face of a threat. Our body’s fight-or-flight response is designed to keep us safe by heightening our response to perceived danger. Part of that response is the release of stress hormones, which increase heart rate, blood pressure, and overall alertness.
The brain is continuously seeking new informational cues to re-assess the threat level. Unfortunately, if we bombard ourselves with COVID-19 details, headlines, and images, we reinforce the threat signal and perpetuate the stress response. Remember, the information we allow in will affect how we feel - and we should monitor that intake with care.
Because of the impact stress has on our body’s immune system, managing it during a pandemic is critical to the success of strategies designed to reduce contagion or the severity of the illness.
2. Be selective about news sources
Where we seek information matters! Credible sources, such as the Public Health Agency of Canada*(your local government authority) and the World Health Organization give us plain facts to counteract the sensationalism and fear-provoking imagery found in the news media. Updates from neighbours or other kinds of hearsay are more likely to include selective attention to fearful cases and stories.
Carefully choosing our sources is the best way to ensure accuracy. While there is plenty of fact-based content on social media, because of the way it works it is also much more likely to turn hearsay into misinformation. The facts - as fluid as they may be - are essential to facing the situation appropriately.
3. Consider the practical value of the information
Not all information is created equal. When we see images of workers in hazmat suits, empty streets, and armed guards, our brains detect a threat and react accordingly. Unfortunately, these images don’t have a lot of value, as they convey very little meaningful or useful information. Where possible, focus on the facts in the story, not the extraneous details or peripheral images.
4. Don’t discount the power of language
When the media reports that rates of infection are “skyrocketing,” for example, it can trigger more anxious feelings than if they’d said “increasing.” Although it may be difficult, it’s important to see through the sensationalistic language and focus on the message and the practical takeaways. If a particular news source uses a lot of alarmist language, consider avoiding that outlet altogether.
5. Set boundaries on news consumption
With such a rapidly evolving situation, it can feel like even a few hours without an update will leave us in the dark. But while the information about COVID-19 is constant, it is also highly repetitive. The more often we receive information, the more it will play on our minds, and the more difficult it will be to disengage.
So try limiting your updates to between one and three designated times per day. In the interim, make a concentrated effort to place your attention elsewhere. When it’s time to re-engage, it won’t take long to catch up.

It is the Normal Human reaction to be Scared of anything we haven't encountered before.
Miraculous little thing call Flight or Fight..that has protected us for milenia.

If you Feel anxious...Good for You..you are Human.

On a site top heavy with Med Users we will Feel it even more...and it might push some over into depression...Natural.

So don't make yourself feel Isolated...many of us are experiencing it...TALK....

We will get through this together... :pass:

I was saying in the Staff Room...I'm putting my Practical Head on.
If I was the Government..knowing what we Know...
I'd be putting Self Containment on the top of my List..
Knowing we don't have enough Police to tackle the job...I'd be putting the Army on the streets..and Threatening the Selfish people who still think they are safe to walk the streets on threats of big fines and jail time.
I'd also be expecting some form of rationing..delivered to your door..contactless...

If I were in charge..I'd do this to Protect You..

If I See our government doing it..it is not a shock or worrying...they are doing what I would do for you...:pass:

You might not Trust your Government...but Trust your own judgement..follow the Logic...it is a lot less Scarey if you think how you would cover it if it was your job..

Jail time is a bit of an empty threat as around here, they are sending non-violent prisoners home

Here too @Sour D ..it is Scare Mongering..hoping it sets social media away..so we all get the Message...

But..it Works... :pass:

Friend coming into town the other day got stopped...All cars coming in got stopped...checked what he was travelling for..chemists...
Got threatened with 15,000 euro fine and jail time if it was unwarranted travel.
First thing he did was ring us to warn us...it Works...:headbang:

A recent interview I read from an expert on this topic suggested that the high experimental survival of infectious virus on surfaces is not likely representative of risk in real life. His reasons for this expectation were that experimental virus loads on surfaces were higher than would exist on the surfaces we normally deal with, and the delivery of virus between the test surfaces and recipient tissue cultures was more efficient. Bottom line was that, given the large differences between the experiments and real life, he expected real infectiousness on surfaces to be something like 24-36 hours, not many times that.

Another aspect of this contaminated surface issue is that this is the one means of transmission that, if not easy to avoid, is at least possible to avoid more or less completely by appropriate behaviour. The main way, nearly the only one, that contaminated surfaces cause infection is by the virus being picked up on hands and carried by them to eyes, nose, or mouth. Hence the repeated, and repeated again, and yet again, instructions to wash hands. If you keep your hands clean and away from your face, you are extremely unlikely to infect yourself from contaminated surfaces.

All of which is to say, don't get discouraged by these reports of virus lasting for many days or even weeks on surfaces. The Covid-19 virus is unlikely to last that long in real life, and even if it did, washing hands and changing face touching habits will greatly reduce if not eliminate the risk from this means of infection.

We will get through this together, and our individual and collective risk can both be hugely reduced by the choices we personally make, starting now. If all of us focus on changing behaviour and following expert public health advice, damage from this event can be minimized. This is not to say that fallout from this event will be pretty, because it will not. This pandemic has killed tens of thousands, and will kill many thousands more before the dust settles. However, a hell of a lot fewer will die, especially among hospital staff, if we all change our behaviour as instructed by local health officials. You personally will through your decisions either make things better, or you will contribute to making them worse. And worse in any given country will be measured in thousands of unnecessarily lost lives, not to mention related economic misery.

The choice is yours peeps, behave as requested by your public health authorities now, or understand clearly that your personal failure to do so will have contributed to making the health bonfire in your local community, and among your friends, family and neighbors worse than it could have been.
