Dutch Passion CBD Skunkhaze, Mazar, Masterkush and Ortega Indica in a SCROG under GN LED

Thanks mate!

I was thinking of letting them grow a bit more and then start removing smaller branches. I haven't done much pruning in the past so it would be a first for me. It's something I've been considering for a while now, to promote the larger branches and remove some smaller to end up with fewer larger colas. I have a feeling it could pay off and I read in your thread that you remove underperforming branches and you seem to get good results with that technique so I thought now might be a good time to try it.

When do you normally remove branches? I removed the first node branches from all plants already as they where just hanging around below the screen but for the others I feel they have to grow to a certain size before you can determine how big they will end up and secondly I would like to see how the screen fills in before removing too much as I wouldn't want to end up with holes in the canopy.

You'll definately see the difference once you start! I usually start pruning once the screen is filled how I want it. Any growth that hasn't made the screen by then as well as most of the undergrowth gets pruned over the course of a few feeds. The secret with pruning is not to chop off too much and risk shocking the plant. I usually start with the branches during the first session (although I tend to remove any that I know won't ever reach the screen before this), the lower growth during the second and the higher growth during the third.

I've found with most autos I've grown that less is more. Trying to create loads of bud-sites will only lead to loads of small buds. Instead I've found that focusing on 8 or 9 branches and developing a major cola each is the best way forward. That's why I always top my plants; To re-divert all that energy into the side branching. Topping really does work well with autos - The new shoots never really develop into much but the side branching goes into overdrive!

Hope that all made sense. I am beyond baked on some 2 Fast 2 Vast (or vice versa) and I keep forgetting how to type:jointman:

Cheers,
Hardon

Thanks for writing that up, makes sense. I'm going to try it out once the screen fills in. You can also achieve bigger side branches by bending the main cola early and keeping it down, it breaks the apical dominance of the main cola.

Thanks and thanks for stopping by Medi!

I went to do some tucking today and I couldn't see the main top of the Masterkush. When I started digging through the canopy this is what I found:

It must have happened sometime during the night as it was fine when I left it yesterday. It has happened once before that during stretch it pushed up so hard against the screen that it snapped.

I taped it up and since I didn't see any wilting at all I think it will be fine. I will have to lay off the training for some days until it heals though. I will add a toothpick as a splint before pulling it down again.

Nice tape up job …if they don't droop, they live.….. Disclaimer…Usually

Sorry to read about your troubles dude it happens to the best of us.

Thanks for the moral support guys :bighug::biggrin:.

It's always a risk you run bending them over. I had a look today and I think it will be fine.

Nice save. Things lookin great.

Thanks Roark and thanks for the rep, much appreciated.
I'm tucking every day now. I just had a major session yesterday and today I did some fine tuning. I think I will start pruning here and there pretty soon. Especially the Ortega since I don't know how much buds it can support in a 1.5l pot, might be better to get rid of the weaker side shoots and keep the main cola plus a few of the stronger branches.
I raised the light about 5 cm to encourage them to stretch a bit more. I would like the Skunkhaze to fill up the lower left corner.
