New Grower CBD Auto-grow Journal v1.02

The King's Kush Auto CBD germinated quickly and robustly. In 36 hours I had a beautiful tap-root and in just 3 days the seed had popped out and produces its "fake" leaves.

The seedling I am replacing as mentioned above. All the overexposed light tan color parts of the leaves are now dry and essentially dead, leaving very little surface area for the plant to absorb energy.

The weather a few days ago. Usually we have our first short wave of summer by now...but not this year.

I cannot really see the stem which is the most important part in determining if it will make it or not. If the stem looks healthy then it has a good chance if not :deadhorse:.

80% germination is typical for even good seeds. It can go to zero for seed that was stored improperly or was just bad genetics to start with.

Ya wouldn't expect bad genetics for a strain that has been used to create another strain, but anythings possible. Some people have said that their plants never grew more than ten inches.

UPDATE:
receives the Myco Nutrient/Bacteria today, heading into the tent now to add to soil.
Earlier today I continued my cleaning of house plants, and their surrounding area, adding diatomaceous earth and a bit of the Myco. I had one plant(Hardy Kiwi) that I had to eradicate spider mites on, and another with some other issue. Once finished I changed cloths and washed hands/arms well, wiping down exposed shin with 70% ISO-propyl alcohol.

Curious as to your thoughts on cooler nighttime temperatures as an aid to yield or health. I know of cosmetic benefits of color to the plants but that is it. If there is some benefit, I may have to switch my grow schedule around to accommodate for this factor.

You get the best yields by keeping temperatures and humidity as stable as possible. My grow room is pegged at about 78 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity stays in the 40 to 60% range year round. I don't have any trouble growing some of the biggest plants on the Forum.

As far as health goes, plants do respond well to stressors. For instance, some strains you remove a bunch of leaves and they'll just grow back twice as fast and twice as thick. I don't think it's a good idea to stress your plants with temperatures though, because we tend to do that with Bloom boosters and with training, etc anyway.

There is some research by lumigrow that suggests turning off your Red Spectrum for 48 hours before Harvest will increase THC production. I find that interesting because I've known a lot of old school Growers that swear by turning their lights off for 48 hours before they harvest. So they may be doing essentially the same thing?

There are as many theories about light and other environmental factors as there are growers. There is a lot of valid science out there as well. If you want to spend your life learning all of it - that would be a worthy endeavor. My personal approach to the environment is to pseudo-mimic the environment that the plants evolved in over the millenia. I mean it really is not possible given my limited resources but things like day length, humidity and temperatures are within control parameters. My goal is not necessarily to grow the biggest plant but to grow a plant that has the best chance of being the "gestalt" version of an outdoor plant grown indoors. As I grow for medicine, I don't want missing or lopsided cannabinoids because I did not give the plant a cooler night time.

I have tried the lights out routine and do not think it did anything to improve potency although it may have improved the flavor a bit but that is just too subjective from person to person. Some people thought it did and others did not. I can say with a degree of certainty that adding strong UVA/UVB light the last 3 weeks of flowering significantly improved the potency. All of the many people I share my meds with are in full agreement about this. I tested this by only exposing half of a plant to the UV lamp and without fail the exposed buds were more potent than the ones that did not get the light. I have not grown without it since then; in fact I found the AgroMax Pure UV t5 48 that really puts out the UV. DO NOT work in the tent with this on.

@CBDJunkie I think I answered your question about cooler night time temperatures above but just to be clear yes I try to run 8°F - 10°F cooler at lights out. It is not always possible where I live but I try.

Do you use 1 or 2 or more of these AgroMax lights?

Here we are Week 1.5 for the King's Kush CBD(1.5in wing-span)

...and 2.5 weeks for the Blue Mystic(3in wing-span)

As the outdoor temps have risen I am needing to turn on the ventilation fan to maintain a good temp(78deg ideally). When I do this the humidity drops and there really is no way to remedy this. So while the fan is off the humidity will be close to ideal(about 64%), but when the ventilation fan is on I am getting humidity levels near 45% currently. I am realizing that perhaps growing in the winter where I can use a heater to regulate the temperature and humidity may be the best time. Right now, as we move into summer temperatures, an air-con and inconsistent humidities will be the way of life. It's a good thing these Indica's are auto's and have a fairly short life cycle.

@Mañ'O'Green - Wondering when the "Early Grow Stage" begins, in particular for the Blue Mystic at 2.5wks, and at what strength of recommended.

I also started a freebe seed that can grow as tall as 9 feet. I figured I can get whatever yield out of it in the fall. This one is a photoperiod sativa and is called Blue Cheese. My challenge here will be to maintain the proper soil pH as my soil is quite alkaline.

Been battling some boiler issues with my heating system, a bit of a flood in the basement. It's a bloody old boiler, 30+ years old, so I may have to start thinking about what will replace it. Ahh, the joys of owning a home!
