Grow Room [Back to Basics] Afghan Kush Ryder & Northern Lights

dude, those things are rockin it! Very nice job man. Interesting choice of training. Never seen ponytailing before. That gives me ideas for if I got a candy kush again. It gets super dense and bushy early on. I really wanna grow some world of seeds strains again. The AKR I did once grew with extreme vigor. Very solid genetics. Ohhhh the smells that came off that think. Mine smelt like warm cup of hash spiced coffee. I LOVED it man. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your progress. Cheers brother!

Thanks! I remember the AKR's coffee smell too. Many strains have smelled like coffee but this one was exceptionally spicy and delicious. You could smell freshly brewed cappuccino 20 meters away in the woods!

Heh, that must have been a nice smell to have in the woods. :coffee:

Day 28
...or at least it was until Imgur stopped cooperating.

Both plants are making great progress. NL is still looking overwatered but she's actually caught up to the AKR extremely fast. Just a few days ago she was about 8 cm shorter but now they're about the same height (NL 28 cm, AKR 30 cm). You'll notice I haven't really done anything in the way of LST. With 5-7 cm of space between the plants and the light it's now pretty much a game of chicken. Even if I lose there's still some room to play with the light so I might make it.

The nitrogen deficiency progressed very quickly after the last update. pH is perfect at around 6.3-6.5. I'm thinking it's an inevitability (getting rootbound) because I also fed both of them 8 ml/l of grow the other day and all I got was claws on the newer growth, the oldest leaves continued to yellow. That or I just suck.
I'm going to back it down to maybe 4 ml/l now and see what happens during the next week.

Hey brother. Doing great man. I have the same problem sometimes. Some plants seems to get hungry out of no where. Then it seems I play catch up, while its to late to stop it on the old leaves. Then almost burning the new growth lol. We grow, and we grow lol.

Nice looking plants man! Is that still just a 30 watt LED your using? I'm going to be 'ponytailing' my plants from now on it just seems so logical and would keep my plants symetrical unlike the tying down with string method i've been using or trying to use. I just saw a guy on here doing it today and then coincidently seen it here in your thread and i never saw it being done before but the idea seems awesome and i bet it does make a difference especialy in early veg when its growing rapid. Cheers!.

It's the Blackstar 100W and somewhat confusingly it uses 34-36W, don't remember exactly. No complaints, though, since the plants are probably as big and lush as they're going to get in one of these containers.
I can't really tell whether or not ponytailing made a difference but in my opinion the branches grew very nicely so it probably won't hurt. I'd like to grow two plants of the same strain some day and experiment with different stuff so I could compare.

Thanks for stopping by!

Day 35
...with some outdoorsy pics this time to keep it interesting.

Trichome production has started, buds are starting to resemble buds and Northern Lights ended up lslightly taller than Afghan Kush Ryder. Starting to get that delicious AKR coffee smell too!
Nitrogen deficiency is no longer a problem but unfortunately it seems impossible to save the leaves that were affected.
Some bud shots:

In my opinion the plants ended up pretty much the perfect size. I'm pretty sure the yield will also blow anything I've grown so far out of the water. So far I've produced just over an oz. TOTAL in the cab.
