New Grower Auto White Widow and Purple Kush grow journal

Day 88 update:
Buds finally starting to fill out a bit. I cut out almost all nitrogen because I was treating my big white widows for nitrogen toxicity. But I'm thinking it may actually be light burn my lights are a foot away from the tops of it but I can't get the light higher in my grow space and since it is the tallest plant out of 4. I also did some super cropping by squeezing and bending the tallest tops on it to get it further from the light. The other white widow and 2 purple kush plants look good. Waiting for I new lope in the mail to check out the trichomes. Not sure how much time I have left on them. Any thoughts are appreciated!

It is hard from just photos to tell but it looks like they still have a ways to go? The Lupe will tell you when - I personally like about 20% amber.

Looking good man for the epsom use 1teaspoon per gallon in hydro, in soil 1 teaspoon per quart (1.3cc per liter) then follow up with 1/4 dose. For the fastest action us a foilar spray @ teaspoon per gallon. Next time you could amend your soil with dolomite lime if you want.
Patience man. I cut down my first CC almost 8 days ago and I'm sampling it now. It's fire I'm so happy lol

Nice job those bad girls look hot! What was the main purpose for you using the Epsom salt? Magnesium or sulphur or?...

You can harvest different buds at different times when they are all ripe. Some sativa's never amber. I'd say harvest at 100% milky and the least amber possible, once you see amber that's indicative of degradation. Keep in mind after harvest the plant is still going through chemical processes and trichomes will still develop slightly. I use the epsom for magnesium it works amazing.

This is a true statement. You need to know something about the strains you are growing. In my personal experience as a general rule of thumb All crystal no milky = not ready, 1/2 crystal 1/2 milky = very racey with a cerebral high, all milky = racy cerebral, 20% amber = nice balance of cerebral and body not usually racey, 40%+ amber couch lock sleepy weed. Some strains will never be racey some not very cerebral and some not a good body buzzer and everything in between. So many good strains to grow and so little farm space!

Now to you go by 20% of Amber trichomes in one area or just the main colas or do you look b at the trichomes all over the plant from to to bottom?
I look at several random buds. I usually harvest whole plants because I don't want my grow space held up for the next grow.

Yeah it's varies with strain/phenotypes, since on this site we focus on automatic varieties there is no definitive marker to accurately judge a prime harvest on. Unlike some that have been keeping mothers for 20+ years that have a definitive genetic life cycle that has been recorded from years (cuts) we don't know the exact window for optimal harvest. All we can do is make an educated guess. Unless we are using advanced techniques like tissue culture which may or may not work for automatics; this will be the only way to have a consistent auto. I will be giving this a try very soon.

But what you have to do is judge the plant as a whole, have the pistils dried and most receded into the bud?, did all the ovaries/calyxes swell? Has the smell intensified? Are all the trichomes expanded to the point where they look they are about to burst and went from translucent to opaque (Milky white)? Again this is all strain/pheno dependant so judge as a whole and use your loupe and your instinct.

Good info bro I heard so many different thoughts and suggestions on when to harvest, it's a bit overwhelming to take it all in.

Yea I'm on the same page as you ManOgreen I think I will harvest whole plant to clear out my space for some new strains I have waiting on deck. How do you typically harvest your sativa's all milky trichomes and your indicas 80% and 20% Amber?

I think they're looking great @Chris Stroupe . Yes, the very tips where they have gone a very pale green could be light burn. But looking so nice at this stage that I had to give you a :slap:
I think it's a combination of nute burn and light sensitivity. Are you able to fold the branches more, away from the light? And what's the ppm?
