You're right!
It's amazing how quickly they grow BELOW the surface.

The air pruning in the 4" rockwool was something I was VERY keen to experiment with this grow, for future endeavours.

What is air pruning? What are benefits?

Air pruning is when the roots hit the air at the edge of the medium, and self prune.
Instead of having a few, long roots, it encourages a greater mass or network of roots.
Its identical to the theory behind the airpots.

Theory is, by concentrating on establishing a larger root mass right from the get go within the confines of a rockwool cube, and discouraging a singular long tap root, it will auger well later in the grow.

Oh, similar to airpots. I used them in soil grow.
Now I water coco/perlite more wide than most autopot users here. To get more wide spread of roots, instead of "get them as fast as possible to trays".

Yep - I hear ya.

I'm jumping into the Autopots and airdomes too, but looking at the rockwool airpruning to establish a wide root network first.
Admittedly, this is with an eye on moving away from Autos and into Photos, and establishing some Mamas and cloning, for a perpetual setup.
