Your thoughts for A total New grower

@Suki813

one last thing qwik..(after looning through the first page of your July journal..)

my friend turned the wife n I on to Rocketbook. Ill spare you the sales pitch, but will say for about a dollar a day plus change it is an affordable option for note taking and e-journal kinds of logs IMO. my sticky note usage has plummeted.

you do need to use Frixion pens, but essentially Rocketbook is a whiteboard crossed with a notebook.
it has some … i cant think of the name, but its the equivalent of the ‘e-bar code’… those boxes you scan with your phone camera.

But what u can do is scan your entry and save it and/or email it. You can set where it will go with a deeper dive into the details.

it takes a few solid seconds for the ink to dry, but once its dry it stays until you wipe it off. And its your handwriting, not some adaptive translation.. i sketch and doodle all the time. It comes with a microfiber cloth one can wet and wipe with. I usually just do water. Its recommended that you wipe off a page before a years time, but potentially one could keep a note that long.

anyhow..I too am cursed with the ability to spew out some winded posts on the interweb forums …

So carry on.
But I think you and @DONTON could find it a useful tool for your toolbox.

I actually use a large sketchbook, so I'm able to do anything I need to do that way lol. I was really into the whole "bullet journal" thing for a bit so I like being able to be more free-form and create layouts I need for various purposes. If I still had access to Microsoft Access I'd absolutely build myself a database with forms for recording data and such but unfortunately that's only offered in their commercial package and I'm not going to drop extra money on that lol.

Thank you.
Yes, Ocean Forest and Happy Frog are going to be my main base. I have a plan to make what essentially is a super soil of sorts.

step one
I have a few ‘starter’ soils that are coco based: one has some castings and such.. so the plan is to blend the starters and throw a smidge of Happy Frog in the bottom. Germ to early Veg in the Supersized Autotransplant into the ever-home 5 gal fabric.

ill use another ‘dummy’ cup as a ‘hold’ and fill the 5 gal with OF n HF ‘custom blend’ that basically will be more OF and some amendments in the lower-bottom and more HF and the other starter soils that are pretty neutral in the upper top half. If all goes to plan i can just take the dummy hold cup out and drop in my autotransplant and keep watering…(once i am ready to transplant ill prep the 5gal).

im sure its not as easy as that, but that is my plan in a nutshell. And if it IS that easy then i will probably start a grow thread..I may anyhow.

im hopeful that bugs arent a huge issue as it will be cold and that should reduce a lot of their options..again in theory and on paper…just because i am expecting something dosent mean that is what will happen in that manner.

im willing to get my hands dirty to find out though!
I use organic notill in ten gallon pots at this point and just reamend with a good nutrient blend in-between grows. I used to be a super soil grower and it worked fairly well its just at scale it was taking to much time. Moving to living soil and no till I was able to literally just add water and using the 10 gallon posts gives me the same result. In the long run it was cheaper and easier. I just water and use recharge once a month. I do use a flowering tea occasionally if they need it.

Long story short I have grown in every medium there is and they all work. Its a lot on preference and what your willing to do. Coco is by far my favorite but at some point unless you set up a system watering 2-3 times a day is time consuming. That's why my set up is what it is took me 3 years to get the result I liked with the input I am willing to give. Experiment and have fun, honestly if you follow any of the advice given to you so far your going to have smokable bud.

PS the last thing I will add do not get sucked into the nutrient booster expensive additive nonsense. If any of that shit was magic they would be using it on commercial crops in all agro not just in basement grow rooms with cannabis. **inserts shameless plug for pop22's myth buster articles* they can save you some time and headache by reading them.

@AJrexxx do you use Daz's mix? I just amended all of my outdoor gardens with 1.5 yards of his blend in the best compost I could find. This is the first time in five years to amend so heavily but it needed it.

Or do you have a different recipe?

That was pretty close to my super soil recipe. I used some segul guano, crustatcean meal, and alfalfa to mix it up. I cant remember where I got the recipe i used back then. From here I am sure.

When i went into living soil I changed to the below because with top dressing the old one was a little to hot.

1/2 Cup per cubic foot the following:

* Karanja Cake (NPK, Micro Nutrients and reported Bug Defense all in one)

* Kelp Meal (NPK, Micro Nutrients, Growth Hormones and many other benefits)

* Crustacean Meal (Crab and/or Shrimp Meal) (Calcium, Nitrogen and Chitin along with other benefits)

4 Cups per cubic foot of a mineral mix:

  • 2 Cup Basalt (Paramagnetic Rock Dust from lava flow that is high in micronutrients)
  • 1 Cup Gypsum (Calcium and Sulfur)
  • 1 Cup Oyster Shell Flour (Calcium Carbonate)
Now I have switched to using 1/3 peat, 1/3 pumice, 1/3 compost (local nothing fancy), and a couple of handfuls of rice hulls for aeration and silica.
Then 4 cups of Build a soils nutrient blend per cycle. (check it out stuff has everything in it just no bio solids.) also have noticed without solids I haven't had any bugs of any sort.

Basically evolved it because my buddy was tired of loaning me his cement mixed to make soil and the time it took now I mix up ten gallon batches as needed and move along saved me countless days over a year of mixing storing and such. Plus with the nutrient blend 44lb bag can go almost a year with 8-12 pots in rotation for a year. I think my oldest bags are at 6 cycles with no deficiencies or issues yet.

Let me get this straight - hard for me to do.......

This is what you add between grows now?

What do you top dress with other than your "In flower" tea.

Sorry I was high could of explained that better. The 1/3 1/3 1/3 is just my soil starting mix for a new pot. I put 3-4 cups of Build a Soil Nutrient blend in the top and mix it in the top couple of inches of the pot after the harvest with some bokashi and let it sit a week or so keeping it wet then drop in another plant.

I also mulch to make sure my beneies and mykos stay alive. Sometimes when I am feeling really saucy I will through some cover crop on it.

I plan on it. winter wont eradicate all bugs, but it should help with a lot of them playing tag along from outside to in…
thanks for bringing in some 411 !

I have many of those amendments sans the blood meal and Humus, i will attempt to scale it to my 5 gal set up. The Happy Frog has some humis but im not sure if it will translate the same…

Thanks everyone for all the almost overwhelming support and help so far. Ill be around to soak up more …:bump:

Some things i found super helpful. If they dont make sence now, they will at some point. Search on and welcome
