Indoor Window sill grow

The wee SOS decided to break soil, so that's Day 1 for this girl. She took her time, but may have been a bit too cool by the window. Moved her into heated propagator and she popped up within a couple of days. She'll stay there until she's ready to go into her final pot by the window.

Yesterday was Day 4 for the wee SOS. I moved her from the heated propagator to a mini propagator which is nestled among the pots by the window, so she gets a bit of warmth from the heat mat. I've opened the vent to reduce humidity inside. I imagine I'll need to remove the lid in a few days as she's stretching a fair bit. Then next week sometime I'll pot her up into final tomato pot.

Day 10 for wee SOS.

She is growing quite slowly and is still small. I put this down to the conditions by the window: not the depths of winter any more, but air temps are only around 17 or 18ºC. Similar to a Scottish "summer" in fact.

Hopefully she'll start spreading those true leaves further soon, which will show she's ready to be potted up. That's a way off yet though - I'll go by her stage of development rather than number of days, in recognition of the grow conditions.

Wee SOS is now at Day 14.

Potted her up onto the final. Her true leaves seem to be getting bigger, so she has the chance to spread roots in plenty of fresh soil and get to a decent size now.

SOS is three weeks old. She's still pretty tiny, but this is the way things seem to go by the window. Hopefully she'll start really growing soon, other plants were similarly small at early stages here in this environment, but then exploded. I've another auto next to the SOS which is now 50cm tall and the same wide. It took a bit longer to get to the flowering stage than it would in a tent, but it got there and looks very healthy. Fingers crossed SOS will do just fine. She's probably focussed on rooting out her pot for now...

The wee SOS is still very small considering she’s about a month old. Maybe she’s not so happy with the cooler conditions, or not getting enough light. Once this cold snap has eased off I’ll probably move her closer to the window so she gets more sun.

In the pic below she's the wee one in the lower half. The bigger girl in the black pot is a clone from a Critical Kush Auto: her bigger sister that I took the cut from is also growing by the window.

The wee SOS is 36 days old, but has only really just emerged from the seedling stage. She is growing a bit faster now in her new location.

I put this slowness down to light, mostly. The original plants at the window had a grow lamp directly over them from very early on, and also benefitted from some lovely sunshine over the past few months. As they got taller, the lamp had to be raised, meaning more recent girls (including SOS) didn't get the same intensity of light. I couldn't simply raise them up either because they would have blocked daylight. Also the past weeks have seen fewer hours of sunshine, and some cooler weather.

So SOS got a bit spindly, and has not grown very quickly. Now that she is getting more direct daylight she seems to be doing a bit better. But the weather has been largely overcast recently.

The wee SOS has had a bit of a growth spurt this week. Still maybe small for 45 days old, but she is steadily getting larger...

The SOS is 55 days old, and looks as though she might be thinking about flowering. She's still small, but has come on a fair bit this past week. To be clear, in the pic below she's in the middle, the tallest girl in a terracotta coloured pot.

Alas, not all is well at the window.

I checked on all my girls yesterday, and they seemed to be okay, but I noticed wee SOS was leaning over slightly, and some small yellow spots on a few fan leaves. I assumed she was just bending to the light, and turned her around. Checked online to see if the spots were symptoms of spider mites.

Anyway, was going to photograph her today to show her flowers. And she's now wilting seriously, and nearly fell over when moved. Propped her up with a skewer to take a proper look. Stem rot at the base, presumably root rot too. Not taking up water. Oh dear, such as a shame as she appeared to be doing well. Can't believe how quickly it spread. Looks like something has munched all around the base of the stem. I have removed her from the window sill just in case this spreads to other plants.

I'm assuming this is fatal. I would try to cut her and root her but she's in mid-flower and I have no reason to believe it would work. Will probably just chop her, dry and add to the edibles pile. Soil will get binned.

What a pity. Day 64 - RIP SOS.
