Happy Saturday! Hope everyone is having a good memorial day weekend.
Figured it was about time I started my outdoor journal for this summer. I'm going to be growing in beds outside for now. No greenhouse, just seeing what does well here naturally.
Location is central Alaska around 62N latitude so Auto's are pretty much my only option. It's Memorial day weekend and it already doesn't really get dark. 20 hours of sun, 4 of twighlight. It's literally daylight outside at midnight hence the thread name :smoking: By the time the day's are short enough to start flower on photo's, its starting to snow lol.
I just got the seeds planted and sprouted outside. Been about 65-70F during the day and 40-48F at night 45% humidity.
I dug up a rotted birch stump last fall along with some glacier silt to add to the beds for a kind of Hugelkultur set up. Then I topped with garden soil and some manure, Coco, local fish compost, and some boxed amendments. Here's a few pictures of the process:
That was last fall, I stuck straw over everything until the spring thaw then removed the straw for planting and weeding. There was quite a bit of grass and dandelions still coming in after all the work in the fall so I went through and dug as much roots as I could out.
Now the beds aren't as pretty but it's worth having the grass gone. I've planted the normal garden veg and taters but saved some room for the girls:
So far I've sprouted 3 of my own cross between Mephisto Ghost Toof and Holy Man, as well as Mephisto Double Grape, Northern Cheese Haze, Forgotten Cookies xSamsquanch. In addition, some Seedsman Blueberry, and ILGM Jack Herer (really durable). Also still waiting on some seeds from SeedStockers for the outdoor grow and show but I'm not real optimistic about them getting here in time....
I've had my indoor girls outside as well for a couple weeks now and they're loving the sunshine:
Left to right is Think Different by Dutch Passion, Mango Smile by Mephisto, Orange Bud by Dutch Passion, and Sour Orange Diesel Kush(SODK) by Mephisto. The SODK is ready for chop and will be coming down shortly. The Mango smile is almost there as well but I'm waiting for her to bulk a bit more since she's a nug bush lol
That's it for now, have a great weekend!
