New Grower why to put your plants in small pots first?

In my opinion, Planting in the final pot is the best.. But when germanating regular seeds, it easy'r to use a 32oz + cup size so you can go to sex, and not wast space, do a bunch then "weed" (ha ha ha) out the males and then tier them into the final pots..

Goauto are doing a little side by side experiment, or just simply having fun with different ways?

I've been wanting to ask about this. Can you provide some more details GoAuto6?
Especially regarding sexing in cups. I usually just use the final pot. Which is of course a huge waste of potting soil, especially if a male ends up getting chopped because there is no use for it right now. Really sucks that you can't clone Auto males.

Anyway, which container size do you use? Do you cut out the bottom before or after planting ? Any problems with rootbound/stunted plants before transplanting?

Thanks mate :smokebuds::High 5:

What were the test results??. I buy fem seeds so little chance of being a male, so I assume there would be no benefit to me using the tier method as I prefer to plant into final pot and buy fem seeds?

hmm - but you can see the results on the photo, don't you? ;) tierring seems to be a fairytale.

No dfx, that's just too small a sample to draw conclusions from. And the soil looks to be different between the two, also. These results from this one photo mean absolutely nothing to me.

I may be in the minority, but I've used only 2-3 ltr pots for years and have produced nice size plants with plenty of herb production. When I first started growing autos and had a large room, I did use 1 gal containers but after a move and reduction of grow area, found that 2-3 ltr could produce almost as much, sometimes more product....with proper care. Presently I have some thunder dragon, Stone dragon, NL, and a couple of photos in small pots & doing fine.
Watering, feeding and lighting are my keys to growing hefty autos in small places.
I am looking to use smaller pots myself. Seems to make a soil mix actually go further and such. I’ll only be growing one at a time right now. I assume more frequent watering in small pots? 3 liter good for a noob to start? Thanks.

I too will be going 3ltr pots my next grow. I've only grown twice, first time was 18ltr pots, plants were too big for my 4x4. My latest grow I went to 10ltr pots and they are still too big. One plant I chopped for compost because it grew too tall, and the remaining one already touches the side of my 4x4, its only 1 plant. I like the idea of 3ltr pots as I like to grow different strains for variety. If the plants can stay small (not too small lol) but manageable, I would love to grow 3-4 plants per grow without LST or any techniques, just let them do their thing. 4 little christmas tress, that's the mission. Possible?
