Mephisto Genetics White Crack + Sour Livers SIP LOS Grow

Curious as to the holes in the soil holder and if you get any dirt falling through? I was thinking of using window screen on mine
I saw where this topic was 1st discussed but never saw the answer to it! Let me know about the window screen if it’s necessary or would help keep dirt n maybe even worms out the water well?!? I have a whole roll of screen from putting it over the air holes in the worm bin! I know it’s not something can’t grow without but if it’ll help let me know so I can put some down before filling the jr’s with soil! Thx

See previous post where I said:

”In a quandary and not sure on whether to add some sort of screening as I see worms working done below the screen and they look healthy ..... I might try some landscape fabric myself next go around ....... I suppose it shouldn’t hurt in theory and knowing I had a few completed grows with minimal soil in the tank leads me to think it would be okay but then comes the issue of air - but how can air enter if soil is solid top to bottom - think I talked myself into trying - might add air stone in reservoir knowing limited soil could get thru ......”

Best i can figure!

The Koot put an airstone in his but his thought was to keep nutes mixed up- he's using coco. The issue I see with that is I tried one in a bucket to mix nutes and found ph jumping all over and mainly higher. I had to turn it off and let water settle for a bit to get a good reading.
I was thinking of mixing soil with coco to help with the air issue. I know in traditional pots and top fed nutes that's a no no but this whole style is different.

Course then I start thinking-"I wonder if air stone would eventually "drill" through the soil" "When up through the ground came a bubblein' crude"

Hey Sour D, I thought the Koot you were referring to back a page was the well known organic canna gardener Clackamas Coot, not the guy in the vid, sorry.
I wouldn't put coco into your organic soil mix, especially at the bottom. Coco grabs onto too many ions and will eventually cause you problems. Since you won't be flushing or over watering from the top, its hard to get rid of the extra ions. If you want to try coco for organic soil gardening, I would definitely follow someone's established tech and recipe TO A 'T'. I have seen a lot of failures over the years where folks try and just sub in some coco for peat in their recipes.
cheers

Duhhh, that's who I though it was. Yeah I've had a few experiments lately that didn't turn out so great. Thanks for the kick!

The one and only Coot (jim), would have a heart attack over being confused with that grow tech.
Someone mentioned pH going up when they bubble water. What temporarily happens is the carbon/ carbonates from the air raises the pH. After the air settles out of the water, it will return back really close to the original pH.
