Mephisto Genetics White Crack and Kis Organics Soil

Gave up on rapid rooters some time during Clinton Era

That's funny. I'm still a nub. I half-assed tried once back in the day...

I think I'm going back to stones for the brewer. The loud exploding toilet sound is unsettling to some of the other occupants, haha. Adding a pinch of bokashi bran to the brew today. That shit stinks. Will use it later around the 24h mark on the young'ns, clover, and to hydrate soil for some lavender.

You really dont like those Caps do you? Im hoping my Home made SIPs address the Cap issue to my satisfaction. I have a few Ideas. One is to just use a larger Container andcut a hole for the plant and cut the plastic lid that locks so it can be removed. I would have the SOIL in the section that the seedling is planted up to the rim. Then TAPER it down where the Lid is cut. Leaving that whole big section LOWER on purpouse. Allowing for Top Dressing in that section to bring it up level by the end of the grow. Zero Plastic Cap, just the lid that comes with the Tote. I like the idea, but will it work well? Also, I found the Cuty Pickers for cheap. HOWEVER, looking at the size it it slightly too LARGE. I dont like any planter being more than 24 inches long. The City Pickers are 24 1/2 x 20 inches I believe, so I wont be doing them ever due to size. This is why I chose the 12 Gal Tote, it is only 22x16. So they can fit in 2x4, 4x4, and 4x8 tents...which I have all of! Gonna go plant my G-Roc seeds. Will do both in Rootmakers, to save time and space for now. I have a lot going on, and have to start more seeds Monday...so I will be using Rootmakers for my seed starting to save space. I am making my new SIPs, and they are larger. I will opt to start in Rootmakers to save a lot of space and because it is colder out right now. Large Pots need more heat to start seeds directly, and I dont feel like experimenting on new SIPs with direct planting in Cold weather. Peace, slow

Sure slow I’m OK with the red caps for the juniors along with double cap of the original over the junior cap, it works very well, try it on your juniors - it works just fine - agree they should be stronger and a tad bigger but I’m ok with the red ones, b/w SUCK too thin and if I was Pres I would make them thicker for sure and tad larger but not much ......

The concept of the SIP is the important thing - but that sucks City Slicker is 24.5 but not a concern at all for me, if you remember my tent is 28.75 inches by 53 inches so I have that little extra room ..... One CS and Ripley‘s OG or even WC will fill that tent, wouldn’t the CS fit nicely into a 3x3 slow ......

Tomorrow I plan on tearing down Nugs and Goldie pots to see what’s happening- soil. Peace MOB

Yes CS would fit perfectly inside a 3x3. However, I would prefer to do 2 plants in that space vs 1. IF only doing 1 plant, by all means the CS is perfect size. I happen to have a bunch of 2x4, 4x4, and 4x8 tents. So 24.5 is not gonna work for those. If I grab some 3x3 tents a CS would be good for 1 plant only. BUT, my Homemade 12 gal SIPs are 22x16, so I can fit 2 in a 3x3. If the plants are small/med sized I can do 2 to finish in a 3x3. I dont like to buy the LARGE plants, but sometimes medium sized strains get LARGER than expected. I think that I just made my mind up while typing this. I will buy 2 of the 3x3 tents. I will run 2 of my Home Made SIPs in 1 of them and I will buy a CS and run 1 plant in the other 3x3. What a great idea. They even have the CS in stock at my Local Menards!!! With the 11% off, it is only $25. Thats worth it, I will go to Menards today and make my SIPs. Will share pics of build. Peace, slow

Hey Slow, Have you thought about using the covers that come with the tote as part of your 'cover'. If you were doing 1 plant, you would just cut a hole for the stem in the center of the cover, then cut the cover in half, bisecting the hole you have made. It would allow easy access for top dressing and come apart in 2 pieces.
You would just want to line up the planting location with the cover hole, before planting.
You could do 2 plants, make 2 holes and 2 cuts if you wanted as well.
A holesaw for the center hole, and then a circular saw (or whatever) to cut the tote cover works slick. I would just something like a dry wash cloth laid around the stem to fill the gap between the stem and the tote cover's hole.
Hope that made sense.
IME I think having 8-9 gallons of soil is more on par for growing some nice plants. I think you are moving the right direction.
cheers

Great idea slow, go for it, I wanna see results in those 3x3 - one white crack will fill a 3x3 in a city slicker .....

On the covers perhaps think about cover strips - get some thinner 45 mil epdm roofing material - price is about 50 cents sq foot or free from roofing new job site trash - anyways cut the in strips and use a 8” by 8” cover or similar size around the plant itself - after you have plant and base all figured out then just lay appropriate sized strips on either sides - who says cover has to be one piece ..... and transplant would be easy - transplant first then strip in around plant - use duct tape to hold in place, wash talcum from epdm first for better stick, and then lay strips on either side - pieces could be wide enough to hang over edge - no tie off needed - if worried put Velcro on sides and epdm .... idea just tossing out - I have no desired to make a SIP but if I can improve i will - with sam I had epdm pieces over the original cover. - mulch heaped up necessitated the move.

Yes, this was discussed pages back. I was hoping that would work better than the CAP. I would cut a hole for the plant and then cut the LID so the plant is held in place always by the small.section of the lid. Then the large section is removeable for easy top dresssing. I would leave it a little low when filling the first time they are top dressed the totes will be full. I am making my SIPs out of 12 gal Totes, leaving room for about 8 to 10 gal of Soil. I am excited to try my HomeMade SIPs! I think that the size is perfect. Everything else should work itself out with the right amount of Water and Good Soil!

idea - but top dressings would be limited to a flat lid.

Soil mites, tons of varieties, many good many not ..... they are there because of the decomposing matter - this is why it is important to have a cover on your pot to avoid them getting airborne and completing their life cycle .... btw I don’t see the tag - tag again.

yep, tagged you again..
thx

i think as the pots dried out (stupid oversight ) the lil fellas ran toward the center under the humidity domes covering the seed starter mix holding the seeds..lil fellas made quick work of the tender new growth.. damn...
double grape is doing great, soil is teeming with the lil white fellas
