Hi folks...
Just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself abit I'm AutoFiend. My geographical location is the UK, I am a medicinal user and have been growing for just over 15 years, I started doing Auto's back in 2008. I came across this forum quite by chance after watching a vlog on the tube, where it was mentioned, (not sure if it is ok to post the channel so I won't, because I don't want to end up on the naughty step on my first day). Looks a very good resource that will come in very handy for a complete novice like me, for a couple of little projects I have in mind...
I currently have an Auto grow going at the moment (20 days in from seed), which is due to be switched over to the flowering faze any day now! I am NOT an expert and never will be, I do have a fair bit of knowledge (probably all of it useless, lol), so if I can help someone, somehow, sometime, cracking!

Welcome to AFN!! The U.K. contingent is growing! So many helpful people here and I’ve yet to see any ‘nasty’ people compared to some other forums. No question is too stupid here

Quick question for you, you say in your post that your about yo switch your autos to the flowering phase. How do you do that? I’ve only been growing them for a year and as far as I have experienced, they flip themselves when they’re ready - I haven’t been able to force them to go in to flower. They don’t respond like photos (for me anyway).

Hey Sleeper,
What I mean is, not so much "switch" them in the conventional sense like Photo's i.e. 18/6-12/12 for flowering, but with Auto's I normally just stick them straight under a 450w Blue CFL until they show Pistils (unless I'm LST'ing them etc.), then change the bulb over to either a 450w Red/Flowering CFL or a 250w HPS, for the flowering cycle. I have found over the years that it helps to keep the internodal spacing nice and compact (especially if space is at a premium, like when I first started), but it also helps with the way that I train them too. Perhaps that was the wrong sort of adjective to use in this sence, no doubt others will have their own ways of explaining things, but that's just one of the things that I do...
So if I was just doing a straight grow it would be Blue cfl till pistils show, red cfl till the end of flowering, the "switch" so to speak is in the bulbs Blue to Red, not the plants or the light cycle, if that makes any sense mate?

Ahhh! That makes sense, I see what you mean now. I’ve only ever grown under an LED so haven’t had to think about swapping out lights for various stages. Mind you I think I should look in to something, my current grow has shot up to 34” tall now at 38days (mind you I didn’t do any lst on her, lesson learned!)

I know, that’s what I said in that post lol. I was referring to where Autofiend said he was about to switch his autos to flower..... :smoking:

Funny enough Sleeper, I've just bought an LED myself and I'm using it for one of the plants in my current crop. To see exactly how well it performs compared to what I have been using so far. The plant I have under it at the moment is doing amazingly well I have to say, far better than I expected anyway.

At least you have the experience to make a valid comparison. I’d be interested in what you think. What sort of LED are you using?
