Transplanting Autos Causes Stress. Myth?

SPRING!? We went from -40 6 days ago, to +12 with heavy rain. I could see my lawn again and it was all I could do to stop myself from popping my seeds. Then this morning, I spent 2 1/2 hours dancing with a fucking snowblower.

No. I used it last year for tomatoes and peppers. This spring will be the first time I use it with pot. I'll upload pics of it.
Lmao sorry I didn't see this sooner. I kinda went through the same thing just not as severe, it was below 3°-18°f, which is About 25°f less than what we normally experience for a little over a week along with the snow. Shit sucked I'd never been so happy for temps to reach freezing lol I know how you feel. Weather is crazy. Damn ground hog, I think called for 6 more weeks of winter. Should have checked for his shadow when the sun peaked through the clouds lol

I know eh? He saw his shadow and I was like "Noooooooo!!!". lol

I'm at Lat 45 and heard my fist Blue Jay last week, so I know it's not that far off. My dad was an old time farmer and he always said early Blue Jays means early spring. So Wooot!

BTW, I've changed to a large 28oz calking tube so my pots are going to be 3"x5. Like a joint, bigger is better right?

Ya I reckon, whole I admire your ingenuity, I think skinnys save weed and produce the same effect. Lol
I actually just seen somewhere Something similar to what your doing. It's a wooden tool with a small base, and you wrap it with newspaper, and twist it in the base. But the thing is kinda expensive for what it is. Can't remember where I seen it at. That's bothering me. Lol

Ya. Newspaper pots. It's nothing you can't throw together yourself. I looked at those, but I still have newspaper in my garden from a couple years ago and I wanted something that degrades easily. I also looked at Earth pots made out of compressed wet earth, then sun dried like you would a mud brick. They're cool, but will fall apart once they're wet I think, and I need to think about transporting.

I originally wanted to use Rockwool, but constant watering bothered me. I got the idea from the videos I posted, and mixed it with Tree Seelding pots, which are an awesome idea, but again, I don't want to transport anything out once I'm done planting.

The nice thing about these is that you can use the pots to template the hole, pull out your plant, and gently drop it in the new made to order hole. If I was planting at home, this would be what I'd use.

Here's an article on it.

Oh ok cool I didn't realize newspaper took that long.
Definitely loving what your doing man, kudos to you. I'll definitely check more into this.

The first pic is one week from seed when I transplanted from solo cups. The after pic is one week later. My overall success rate is higher when I transplant as I find a little seed is a lot more manageable in a solo cup than in a big pot. This plant being transplanted is Ripley's OG.

All good stuff everyone but I’ll stay with peat pots. Easy peezy. Unless someone can tell me that they are no good.

Wikipedia about root hairs:
"Root hair cells can survive for 2 to 3 weeks and then die off, at the same time new root hair cells are continually being formed at the tip of the root. This way, the root hair coverage stays the same. When a new root hair cell grows, it excretes a poison so that the other cells in close proximity to it are unable to grow one of these hairs. This ensures equal and efficient distribution of the actual hairs on these cells.

The act of re-potting or transplanting a plant can result in root hair cells being pulled off, perhaps to a significant extent, and such plants may therefore wilt for some time as a result"

I read another place that bad transplanting could damage 95% of the root hairs, if so no wonder some get stunted growth for 2-3 weeks after repotting

One Transplant Method:
Cut the bottom off a solo cup and vertically cut the remaining top in half. Now put the 3 pieces back together using some tape.

When it's time to transplant give it a good watering then cut the tape at the bottom and remove the bottom cap. Place cup in new location, cut the tape on the sides and remove each half of the remaining cup. No muss, no fuss, no trauma.

My transplants do better if they are a bit dry when I transplant. The root ball holds together better.
