I don't transplant when I don't have to. Mostly because I am lazy. Starting your seeds in the final pot wont hurt and makes everything much easier. In addition I do start my seeds directly in the soil with no pre soaking or anything. Pointy tip down about 1/2 inch and a dome that covers the whole pot to get the temperature of the medium up and keep it moist. Even at lower temps like 72ish it usually takes 3-4 days until the seedling breaks through the soil. Germination rate is very good. The seedlings in the picture where planted that way four days ago at an ambient temp of 72f and 75f under the dome.
I firmly believe that the less you stress your plants the better they turn out to be. Transplanting is stress. It wont kill the plant but try to avoid it.
