Harvest & Curing The Water Cure

So i thought i would try it. Since i have a plant that didn't flush too well i have nothing to loose.

Here is what you need to do, to try it yourself.

1: Place your buds into a jar, and fill the jar with water. Enough that you can fully submerge the buds.
2: Place jar in a dark place.
3: Change the water every 24 hours.
4: Repeat step 3, for 7 days.
5: After 7 days, Take the buds out of the jar and dry them. Once they are dry, they will look and smoke like buds that have had a long air cure. And your once full of fertilizer buds will burn clean.

*Water cure will remove most of the terps, so you buds won't be as fragrant.

Any discussion on the matter is more than welcome. I will post my progress, and my final verdict on the process.

That is really cool and the concept totally makes sense as thc is not water soluble and all the nutrients and terps are...... basically reverse order from the normal air dry method.

Yeah it is interesting.

i am curious what it does to the quality of smoke. Before the water it was pure black ash when i tried to smoke it. So if it is at all white, after the water, it's a winner.

I would rather have less terps than a jar of crap that is only good for compost.

Thought i would add, these wern't fresh when i put them in here. They were already dry enough to sample. So you can use this method on already dry buds. Knowing what i do now, i could have saved some horrible bags of street pot from the trash bin.

Great thread. Maybe when I get my harvest in I will do a bud to bud (same wet weight) ratio of air cure vs. water cure and post pics, noticeable differences, and overall thoughts. Or anyone else is welcome to it.

One thing though, that oil didn't have that herbal taste so if you wanted to make stealthy edibles that don't even taste like they have been medicated - water curing would work very well for that.

As soon as I thought it I picked it up in the next line... lol was thinking its a good way to make a bud that maybe not so tastey clean before making oils or hashes...

now the freezer cure... just fresh straight in? nice... I'll have to try that too... thats an even simpler stealth method.

Another thought I had on the water cure was you could probably dump your water flushes from it back to your plants and basically no lose a drop of nutrient... anything not metabolized by the plant would be available again after the wash out...

I tried water curing a year or two back - just the way Bailer describes. First time worked more or less okay - not much smell in the finished product, but it was difficult to burn (I did dry it out first!). Wouldn't stay alight.

Second and third times, the bud went all slimy and started to come apart in the water after three days - reckon some kind of bacteria got into the process.

So not very successful for me but I'd like to try again sometime as the thought of low-odour smoke appeals to me - good for stealthy toking...

I'll bet water temp has a huge influence on bacteria and slime as described... any idea the temps you were running? and were you changing water every day?
I'm very intrigued by this counter-intuitive process

Yeah, I changed the water everyday, JM. But the ambient room temperature was fairly high all three times. I did it in the summer. Maybe I was just lucky the first time. If I try it again I'll do it at a lower temperature; see if it makes a difference.
